This in my opinion is one of the more accessible hikes in the Lake District. It is spectacular and a bit scary. My best friend will do this next time as I let myself down by refusing to continue the last 1/4 of the ridge....More

A nice Saturday afternoon walk he said. Little did I know I would be climbing a mountain. But climb it I did. This was a hard climb but absolutely exhilarating. It really was worth all the hard work once you got to the top.

This is a great mountain with a number of routes to the top from easy hike(but long) to the sharp ridge end. plan it first. Great views in all directions and a must to 'bag'. be aware of windy conditions which are common. Fabulous winter...More

First enjoy the view. Expansive and breathtaking. Second the peace. Located on a farm you'll hear birdsong not traffic. Third the fabulous accommodation. Everything is top of the range and the owner has a flair to make this chic place homely. Finally the presseco and...More

Walked up Halls Fell Ridge and down sharp edge. What a mountain! If you visit the lakes then get up this mountain.....afterwards you will get what all the fuss is about.

Went from the White Horse pub via Sharp Edge and down the easy path. Weather was perfect, not too hot. I started about noon and met one group coming down and a couple of people on Sharp Edge. Wonderful views from the top. Should be...More

Blencathra has it all. Easy access from the main Keswick Road, well-defined paths, spectacular 360-degree views of the northern lakes, excellent scramble options on Sharp Edge, easier options for those who prefer to walk not scramble. Was here two weeks ago, getting ready for a...More

I went up via Souther Fell and back via Bonscale Fell as doing the round. Easy enough route but I still had my rucksack with all my gear. I felt really over dressed on Blencathra as lots of walkers in shorts and t shirts. Very...More

Walked up from the car park at the Blencathra Centre via Blease Fell. Beautiful dry, clear, crisp day with magnificent views on the way up, at the summit and on the way back down. Will try one of the more challenging ascents next time.

A challenging and exciting adventure. Many ways to reach the summit chose according to ability and fitness. If your trying Sharp Edge make sure of the weather and make sure you are suitably equipped.

There is a car park just above the Blencathra Centre, situated a mile or so to the west of Threlkeld village. It is an easy 90 minute walk from there to the summit although the early stages of the path are not well defined... More

Partly depends what you mean by easiest... my preferred route is to park the car in the lay-by on the A66 by the White Horse Inn. Straight into the fells from there. Well defined path to the tarn. Head right if you want to... More
