Do the walk from Ambleside to Bowness, going via the wood on route to Troutbeck and you will pass by Jenkin Crag, where a wonderful view over Windermere is your reward. A great place to stop for a picnic lunch.

requiring reasonable fitness and/or a stout walking stick. Great views from the crag, quiet and beautiful amongst the trees. You need to have walking shoes, sunglasses and a raincoat in the Lake District even in summer, so go prepared and you will love it.

This was a leisurely walk up from Ambleside through some picturesque woodland. It is a fairly gentle walk and took less than 30 minutes from the centre of Ambleside. You can continue round and keep going all the way to the summit at Wansfell pike if you wish. The view from the Crag are well worth the short walk.

If you are visiting Ambleside and want a good view of Windermere then head for Jenkin Crag. The path starts opposite the very large garden centre. It climbs steadily uphill - the path is largely good (although a bit stony in places). If you simply want to do a return trip to the viewpoint, then most people could do it... More

Jenkins Crag is a relatively easy way to get a heart view over Windermere. The climb, while a bit steep isn't long and the view is well worth the effort. This can be just a quick up and down or included in a walk up or from Wansfell Pike. The views from the Pike are much better, but very much... More

This is an up and down walk with plenty to see great photography. Away from it all nice and peaceful. Cannot go wrong with choosing this walk.

We were on holiday in Huyton Hill and we decided to walk up Wansfell via Jenkin Crag and back to Ambleside on a very hot day. We were a family of five and the children were more athletic than my wife and I. The views from Jenkin Crag are wonderful and I was happy just to sit and watch as... More

An Ambleside local recommended this as by far the nicest route up Wansfell Pike, and I would certainly agree. You can Google the route, but you start near Stagshawe Gardens, pass up through the woods and Jenkins Crag (lovely views), then a gently meander around and up and over Wansfell Pike. It took us about 4 hours with two young... More

An easy walk just a short distance out of Ambleside with lovely views. Glad I decided to join my husband as he is the one keen on walking not me
