The headstone on Ruskin's grave is elaborate yet tasteful and well worth seeking out in the graveyard in Coniston village.

John Ruskin's grave is situated towards the back of St Andrew's churchyard in Coniston. The Celtic cross stands tall above the other gravestones and is easy to find.

This is certainly one of the most attractively adorned gravestones I've seen. Regardless of how much you know or want to know about Ruskin, it's worth wandering through this lovely churchyard. There are several impressive gravestones but this is certainly the star amongst them.

I have to admit I didn't know so much about Ruskin and his work before we visited the Lakes. It came as a pleasant surprise to me to find out what a great man he was and his contribution to modern history and literature.

Not that easy to find. Ornate markings with decorative lettering. There is a bench to sit on just opposite it so that you can take a rest while looking at it.
