Unfortunately the church was being renovated when we came so we werent able to see much. I visited to see Wordsworths grave which was well signposted and easily accessible. Its a nice thing to do if you're in the area but wouldn't be your main destination.

If you have an interest in William Wordsworth you might like to visit the church in whose grounds the famous poet is laid to rest along with several members of his family. It is not far from Dove Cottage where he lived.

Historical buildings always fascinate me and (despite the heavy building work being carried out on the clock tower whilst we were there) to stand and look at the ominous grey building and to think that it is steeped in history, that people from the 14th century saw what we were seeing, is surreal. We didn't go in the church as... More

This is the most quaint lovely beautiful spiritual church I have visited :) Again Gramsere has some memories for me over the past 25-30years :) I always visit here and light a candle! This is a mist but please be respectful and leave a donation. The grounds are also lovely and tranquil and please dont let your dogs roam free... More

I stopped into St. Oswald's on a recent visit to Grasmere. As has been pointed out, the church is undergoing renovation and there was quite a bit of scaffolding up. However, it was still worth the visit to this lovely church.

The church itself is about 1300 with newer bits added on and it very interesting inside. We have visited before but it it undergoing a significant renovation to remove the concrete covering put on all of the outside of the church in Victorian times and is covered in scaffolding and noisey workmen. I am sure when this is completed it... More

The Church is situated in the centre of the village and dates from the 14th Century but has been extended since then and has an annual rushbearing festival. There is an unusual high ceiling with exposed beams and some stained glass windows. William Wordsworth attended the church and you can see his grave and his wife, sister and three of... More

Lovely little church, although not really pretty to look at as some from the outside, with an amazing interior, with exposed beams, and even has sofas in it. Lovely graveyard where William Wordsworth and his family are burried

St Oswalds church is really quaint. It has a really unusual wooden vaulted ceiling. The outside is now looking very tired and it would be good if it could be renovated but the inside is really lovely and well worth a visit. It is conveniently situated right in the centre of Grasmere opposite the garden centre. William and Dorothy Wordsworth... More

I enjoy dropping in here as I enjoy the tranquility of this very loved church. I often walk around the shops, have a hot drink then visit the grave of the Wordsworth family. This church is the hub of the village. It is a must do whilst in the Grassmere area.
