If you are in Hawkshead, this old school is certainly worth a visit. William Wordsworth went to school here. If there is a guide available, you will learn so much more.

Fascinating and really well-explained. Not having any great knowledge of Wordsworth before this visit, it was such a worthwhile thing to do - just £2:50 entry (£1:50 for older people) to learn about the grammar school where 90 boys (no girls) from relatively rich families...More

The Grammar School is a small museum (3 rooms) showing school artefacts from the 17th C onwards. Adults £2.50 to get in over 60's £1.50. Reasonable value. Fascinating to see the pupils names carved in the desk. Worth a visit if you are in Hawkshead....More

Whilst staying at The Old Schoolhouse in Hawkshead we visited the Grammar School next door where William Wordsworth studied. The guide there was very helpful and knowledgeable and we found the whole experience very interesting.

We were overwhelmed by the history at this place and the tour guide was full of information, you could feel the 1500s seeping through the walls. A real feel how boys were educated in those days. Very enjoyable

Hawkshead is a little off the beaten track itself, demanding a commitment in driving time of perhaps 15-20 minutes from Ambleside with twisty roads, and the Grammar School within Hawkshead can also easily be missed, for parking in the main car park and walking into...More

Its only £2.50 to get in, and well worth it.. The "curator", gave us a lovely history lesson on how the school operated way back in time, so interesting... Showed us where Wordsworth sat and etched his name into the desk.. Also contains the headmasters...More

Small grammar school where Wordsworth went. You can even see his graffiti on the desk! Cheap to get into as well
