Absolutely loved Brantwood. It was recommended by our hosts at Walker Ground Manor. Delete repeated wordb. We walked round the beautiful gardens bursting with azaleas and rhododendrons then enjoyed a delicious lunch sitting on a beautiful day surrounded by spectacular views over Coniston lake. We ate asparagus and goats cheese quiche - delicious! Would definitely go back again.

Unfortunately we visited on a rainy day, so were unable to look round the gardens. This house has stunning views and one can understand how Ruskin must have fallen in love with it. The film about Ruskin is very informative, he was the original socialist and many of the things he wanted for the working class are now a reality.... More

We didn't visit the house but enjoyed walking around the hillside gardens. The bluebells were out and the Azaleas were just coming into bloom adding colour to the gardens. A lot of the paths are quite steep and we didn't find the garden map very easy to follow nevertheless we enjoyed a very pleasant couple of hours followed by a... More

This was our first visit to Brantwood and we really enjoyed it. Being aficionados of all things Arts-and-Crafts and late 19thC /early 20thC. The tour starts off with a fifteen-minute film about Ruskin and Brantwood and then you are free to discover more about a remarkable man and his house. We learned much and there was much more to learn.... More

Ok so it was rainy and we didn't see the gardens, but come on, someone is having a laugh at your expense. Loads of the pictures not even from Ruskin.

A rather damp day to see this property but in January there is not much open. Friendly welcome but unfortunately the temporary cafe only served tea/coffee and chocolate bars and crisps so hardly worth employing someone. Some interesting exhibits in the rooms that were open

We have just spent a week staying in The Eyrie, a self-catering flat on the top floor of Brantwood. It is designed for two people, but is very large. It has a well-equipped kitchen and two toilets! One each! The view from the front window is directly out over Coniston Water towards Coniston village and the Old Man. The weather... More

I took my students to Brantwood as part of graduate student excursion, and it was a really worthwhile visit! Aside from the lovely grounds and the fascinating house, there is a wonderful intimacy to the way visitors can explore the house freely and even play the piano! Although my students had read Ruskin and were aware of his historical importance... More

Our second visit to Brantwood but still plenty to enjoy. Increased our appreciation of Ruskin and his work, which must have been inspired by the beauty of the location. Staff in the house and the café pleasant and helpful. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in the Victorian era, or just to enjoy the ambience.

Arrived via the Gondola steamship. What a wonderful place and so much to see of Ruskin's former home. Staff were very helpful and informative. Lots to see including exhibitions and what a fantastic building and such stunning views. Recommend travelling from Coniston (rather than via the very narrow road on the east side of Coniston Water) on either the steamship... More
