Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales.

I'm not a huge fan , but the cottage is very sweet and very well kept. The volunteers add lots of history which added to the visit. Its definitely worth the trip, not cheap but I don't begrudge as upkeep must be expensive. Small car park so go early.

I would say it's a bit over rated, it's dull and dingy, I'm glad we're Trust members as the entry price is pretty steep for what you get.

I thought turning up on a Monday lunchtime in early June would be a quiet time; it wasn't. The Car park is small and was full which meant parking some 400 yards down the road and walking back to the ticket office. Even whilst I was waiting to be served, two tour groups came in of about 15 people each... More

I was looking forward to visiting Hill Top again, as I had very fond memories off going as a child, however after the wonderful informality of Allan Bank my toddler and I found this very restrictive. I can completely understand why this would be so as there is much that needs to be preserved, but it's definitely one to wait... More

The long awaited day arrived. we could go to Hill Top. generous gift of NT membership from our son meant we had a family day and could share the magical beauty of the area around Hill Top. If you intend to reach Sawrey via the ferry from Bowness side be warned. queues mean you wait and a new fangled system... More

Just how you imagined it. Great if you've seen the film or enjoyed the tales of Beatrix potter. Can get very busy so I would suggest first thing or last thing. You have to wait for a slot to look around the house. But if followed with a look around the gallery and a trip to Bowness for the Beatrix... More

We visited Hill Top early morning at the beginning of March. The car parking is in a slightly different place and this is also where you collect your timed ticket for entry. We collected our ticket and made the very short walk to Hill Top and once there it is easy to see why visitors are given these timed tickets.... More

We recently had a lovely visit to Beatrix Potter's house where she had made a home for herself after many childhood holidays to the Lake District with her family. We were told that she had chosen just about everything in the house herself & had intended Hill Top to be left to the National Trust for some time before she... More

We only visited the garden as the house is closed on Fridays. Quaint garden. There's a little scavenger hunt for children to do there. That was actually back in June 2014. Beatrix Potter was so important to the National Trust that I had to visit and I would go again if I'm ever in the area again.
