    Enjoyable day out.
We started our visit at the house as it started to rain and sat and watched a video about 800 years of history at the castle described by a member of the Strickland family who lives there, even though it was gifted to the National Trust in 1950 to care for it. There are various rooms you can have a look round, a lot of them with lovely wood carving on the walls and Waring and Gillow furniture. It is worth reading the information leaflet in each room as they give details about the portraits and furniture and guides are available if you have any questions to ask. As it had stopped raining we were able to have a wander round the lovely gardens with a map of the area showing it laid out in different themes, rock garden, herbaceous border, kitchen garden, stumpery etc., and also two lakes with walks also in parts of the estate as well. A great day out.

    Well worth a visit
As National Trust members this was free but it was excellent. Didn't know anything about it before we were in the area. The parking was good. The gardens were very nice and full of many plants and trees. The visit round the house was very informative and interesting. The guides were always on hand to fill you in on history, etc.

Lovely visit, best food at a National Trust property
Visited on the way to the Lake District. It’s a small castle that was extended over the years and now is a very interesting place to visit . Lots of original furniture and it’s hits a lovely character. Add great gardens including a stumpery, rock garden and walled garden and it made for a lovely visit. The cafe has the widest choice and best quality food we have eaten at a National Trust property- I had the lamb burger and my wife had a jacket potatoe with tuna mayonnaise- they were both excellent .

    Excellent place to visit
Lovely house and gardens, the cafe and gift shop were very good. My only complaint would be is having to pay car parking charges. Most places we visit as a free car park as you are paying to in to the grounds. It was £6 for 2 hour’s parking a bit too expensive.

    A Grand Day Out
This was our second visit and therefore were aware of the parking issues therefore arrived relatively early. Did the Sizergh Fell walk. Very well sign posted. The weather was fantastic, clear blue skies so the views toward the Lake District were magnificent. On return went to the cafe ( small for the number of visitors) , managed to get a table but a long queue and wait to get served. Gave the house a miss this time but if you haven’t been well worth a visit. We will return to investigate other walks

    Gardens are worth a visit
What a lovely place to explore on a cold dull day in October. I am disabled and managed to hire a mobility scooter before we visited the gardens. Unfortunately we picked a day the house was closed. But the gardens are worth a visit.

    Great NT property
Spent a lovely few hours here walking around the gardens and the castle. The gardens were stunning and are obviously very well maintained. Great to visit this time of year with the leaves changing colour - some great photos taken! The castle is worth walking round, there are lockers availabe for free at the entrance if you want to leave your bag (they do ask you to do this if you're carrying backpacks). Plenty of information displayed about each room and volunteers to chat to. Nice cafe with plenty of food choices and a good cuppa! Ice cream also available outside at the smaller drinks kiosk...well we were on holiday after all!! It's places like this that make it worth being a NT member!

    Great Visit
A wonderful visit. There is plenty of parking. We had a great walk with our dogs. Excellent visitor centre, with some nice gifts and cards. The cafe was great and we had really tasty meals and nice coffee. Good toilet facilities. We had an enjoyable walk round the garden too. A bonus is that it was free to National Trust members.

    Brilliant
We came to Sizergh Castle primarily because we could get in for free as NT members! I didn't really know anything about it before I came. I'm pleased we did come as I really enjoyed it. We had a really nice meal in the cafe which wasn't too expensive considering it is a NT property. We then went on the trail through the woods with our daughter and followed the clues which she thoroughly enjoyed. We also had a look around the castle and the gardens. There was a quiz for children to do around the castle which kept our daughter entertained. The castle was really interesting and the gardens were lovely. A great visit.

Great walk and lovely National trust property
Really enjoyed our time at Sizegh. Friendly staff in the shop and helpful with guiding us on the right walk to take. The castle was closed for visitors but we went knowing this, we walked two of the 4 paths and appreciated the hard work put into the castle grounds. We will be returning!

Website did not say that the house was closed and cafe shut at 3.30
When we bought tickets for the grounds the staff did not say the cafe shut at 3.30
Attended cafe at 3.40, people in front of us were served but we were refused a take away cafe because “it was closed” despite staff still serving and people sat in cafe. Disappointed not to get one for the journey home. Staff member was very rude when I asked why the girl at the ticket office did not tell us. Think communication could be improved between staff.
Paid £12 to go on a walk around the grounds and could not see anything - would recommend others attend on days when facilities are open or otherwise do no pay to attend grounds and just do the walk around the free access.

I am a longstanding Member of the NT and feel very privileged to live in the locality of this lovely Property. My wife and I frequently visit the Cafe and from time to time purchase both loose loads and bags of dry logs from the NT shop. However, upon visiting the Property today, with the sole purpose of purchasing a further quantity of bagged Logs, I was rather taken aback to learn that for whatever reason the price had rocketed from the usualy price of £5 per bag to £7!!! The rate of Inflation in the UK is currently around 1.8%, but the price hike imposed by the NT for this product equates to a 40%increase....which any reasonable thinking individual would find impossible to justify or reconcile.
Come on NT, you can surely do better than this, if you are in any way serious about maintaining your reputation as a Brand and trusted Household name.

Stopped off here on the way to Scotland as we often do. Ostensibly NT have things well organised for the pandemic - prior booking, notices everywhere asking people to wear face coverings etc. I question some of their own hygiene processes though. Bought a couple of takeaway coffees and the server put the cup covers face down on the counter - not hygienic at the best of times. Also, the bins were completely overflowing at the cafe - not surprising as there were only 3 and it was a busy day. I know the NT are struggling but there are ki excuses for some things, especially given how high entry and membership fees are

We arrived at 12.00 to find the place absolutely over flowing with people. You now have to pay to park but unless you are a NT member (which we aren’t any more) you need cash for the parking machine! Who has cash in this post COVID world? We managed to scrape just enough for a two hour stay (we would have stayed longer). The parking meter is at the entrance to the cafe so you have to walk over there and then Go back to your car and then back to the cafe/shop to buy your house tickets! By this time we were absolutely soaked as it was pouring with rain. We bought our tickets but then couldn't Go into the castle for 45 minutes. So, we thought we’d buy a drink and maybe a sandwich. However, the queue for food and drink was so long and the service so slow, then by the time we got to the service point, it was time to go into the castle so we didn’t Buy drinks or food. By the time we came out of the castle, we only had time for a very quick walk around a bit of the gardens and then our time was up. Overall, a very expensive and poor value visit. I know that the NT have had a tough year, but if they want to encourage more visitors, this is not the way to do it. Try visiting Levens Hall where the parking is free, the hall is beautiful and full of history, the food is amazing and so is the service.

We couldn't get in. The car park was free to National Trust members, but would only take coins from mere mortals. Who has several pounds worth of coins in the post-Covid era? If you want to go, take a pocket ful of coins.

In a strange design, the pay machine was not near our parking place, but next to the entrance (for the convenience of staff?) so if you got a ticket you'd have to walk back to your car to put it on the dash and then return to the entrance. This is stupid!

We were annoyed, and so left to enjoy the rest of our day. If NT thinks this is the way to win friends and members, they're crazy.

On a micro level, on this day instead of getting about £35 from our visit to the house, garden, cafe and shop they got nothing. They really have no business acumen.

Been looking forward to visiting Sizergh Castle as we hadn't been here before.
As we are Scottish NT members We often get the feeling some members of staff in NT properties have their own private agenda on this matter.
As was this place. After trying to work out how to pay for the Car park and asking a staff member for advice all He said was you have to use your Bar code.
After a further quarter of an hour two-ing and fro-wing asked if He meant the bar code in our book.
Anyway cutting a long story short All we had to do was just leave our Scottish NT sticker on the windscreen and that would be fine.
You should join the Real one He said.
Really
Well thanks for your advice but you can keep it.
So off we eventually trot through the entrance and as we were making our way A nice lady chased after us and said Oh By the way Your Dog is not allowed inside the house OK.
Oh and it's not allowed in the gardens either. OK
So where can we actually go with her. Well basically just keep to the left and there is an area there that Dogs are allowed.Oh Cheers
Now here is another thing I have a problem with. The owners of the house were in residence and the house was closed to NT Members. Penny and the Bun comes to mind.
Managed to quickly take a few shots to show the family what it looked like.
So no wouldn't come back here again.Very Disappointing.

A very tranquil place the gardens and walks are very special in any weather.
The house is not open at the moment in the current situation.
You have to book your visit which reduces the foot fall so makes it a please place to visit without crowds.
There is a cafe and toilets on-site and friendly informative National Trust staff available to help.

Enjoyed our visit to Sizergh - our first NT visit since the pandemic. We had timed entry and everything went smoothly.
Gardens are stunning. Weather wasn’t overly kind or we could have spent much longer looking round them. House tour was interesting and nice to see collections that belonged to the house (and family)
We availed ourselves of the cafe of course! I was pleased that they were able to cater for food intolerances and had the nicest brownie I have ever eaten.

Remove pay and display parking at National Trust properties for NT members!!
Turned up excited to use out National Trust membership for the first time this year, only to find we had to 'pay and display' for parking. With only £20 notes on us and no change for parking machine, we joined the queue in the cafe to get some change. They didn't have any. The machine had a logo on for the 'pay2park' app. We downloaded the app so we could pay that way, only to find that parking at Sizergh wasn't supported on the app (???!!!).
We had no choice but to turn round and leave.
We had travelled from Derbyshire! What a total waste of our time.
Questioning my NT membership and considering cancelling it.

The castle was fine and interesting. The cafe on the other hand was poor. Slow slow slow, We ordered Toasted sandwiches then waited over ten minutes for tea a d coffee. We waited so long by the time we got the drinks the toasted sandwiches were stone cold. Very poorly run National Trust cafe.
