Five of us took the first boat of the day to do the round trip around the lake on a wet, overcast and windy day. We are all senior citizens, so got a reduced rate on the tickets, which worked out at £9.50 each, and we thought that this was good value for money. The launch was ready for us to board, and after donning our masks, which are compulsory throughout the cruise, we climbed on board. There is plenty of room on these beautiful launches, so Social Distancing is not a problem. We then spent a pleasant 50 minutes slowly sailing around the lake at a nice leisurely pace taking in the lovely scenery. Now that we've done this trip I wouldn't want to do it again - the trip is professionally run, the staff polite and helpful, the boat beautifully presented and maintained, but there's not enough to see and do to want a repeat performance.

Went down to the launch and hired a motorised boat which was £28 for an hour and we’ll worth it
You easily get to see the whole lake in that time. Viewing all the nook and cranny beaches around it
The lake itself is a lot less commercialised like Windermere. They have rowing boats also to here as well as the launch tour boats but still quiet enough to enjoy
Loads of people out on SUP’s, canoes and kayaks with people on the shorelines enjoying themselves too
Whichever you choose it’s worth a visit. Definitely my favourite lake

Every visit to Keswick we’ve said we ought to go on the lake. This time, although a bit windy, we made it. There were just four of us on board- three braving the wind outside and us two undercovers. Covid precautions were adequate for the 45mins trip that was very good although we were expecting some sort of commentary that would have helped us understand a bit about the lake, the islands and the local mountains.

We bought an all day hop-on / hop-off ticket for the Derwent Water cruise, starting in Keswick.
We started with the clockwise route nearly all the way round the lake, and hopped off at the Hawes End jetty.
We then had a 20 minute walk to the Lingholm estate where we planned lunch.
After lunch we did the walk in reverse and caught the launch back anti-clockwise giving us a much longer return trip than continuing the clockwise short route direct back to Keswick.
We were fortunate to find a seat near the front of the launch, in the open air. When a couple at the front left the boat at one of the earlier stops we moved forward for the best view and experience. However, be warned, when the boat in sailing into the wind, there can be some spray – weed needed waterproofs for some of the time.
The trip was enjoyable and the jetties are convenient for those who wish to walk sections round the lake.
Discounted tickets are sold at the tourist office in Keswick and at some campsite nearby.
A reduced rate ticket is available for people who have passed middle age.

We sat on the Princess Margaret Rose for almost an hour around one of the most beautiful lakes in complete silence. No commentary at all, and in such a lovely place there are plenty of sights to point out. Even a recorded tape would have been better than nothing. The 2 members of staff didn’t even speak to each other.
The people who run Keswick launches should be ashamed of themselves and they really need to get their act together. How disappointing!!!!!

We hired a rowing boat on Derwentwater for 1/2 hour. The cost was £13 for two adults and our child was free. Lifejackets are provided and a quick instruction of where you can and cannot go. We only had 1/2 hour so we just decided to row around the Derwent Island. The shore was a bit congested but once you were out in the water it wasn't as busy so was easy to navigate.

As part of a coach trip, we were fortunate to have a boat trip on Derwent Water. As we queued, each boat was disinfected between trips, and all passengers had to wear a mask. The trip itself was both breathtaking and calming as it did a circuit of the entire lake. The only recommendation that I could make, is that it would have been nice for the skipper to have given us a few details about the lake itself, e.g depth, what other water sports people use it for etc.

Husband, myself and our dog hired a motor boat. Good fun and staff were friendly. Lake was a bit choppy so they asked us to do a 30 min tour rather than an hour, so safety was a priority. Very enjoyable.

Hired a powered boat here for an hour which was just enough time to do a circuit around Derwent Water with no alighting. Loved it! Only had to wait 20 mins for a boat, so not bad at all. If you are considering paying for multiple tickets for the boat ride don’t bother , self hire a boat instead.

Will the service be running as per the summer schedule in Sept/Oct 2020? Does it ever get overbooked? Can I buy the tickets in advance?

Hi
Are there any places we can stop off at around the lake that would be suitable to walk with a buggy?
Many thanks
Written April 19, 2017
Hi,
We only got off at Nichol End and walked back to Lingholm for the cafe.
That section is fine with a buggy.
At Keswick you can walk along the side of the lake to the view point
I'm afraid I can't comment on the others stops.

Hi,
I was just wondering how much the weekly family ticket on the Keswick launch is? We are staying for a week from the 15th with our 2 young children so it would be perfect to have a weeks ticket.
Thank you in advance,
Jane Bones.
Written July 3, 2016
I don't know if there is a weekly ticket but a family ticket( 2adults and up to 3 children) is in the region of £24 which. Believe us a daily ticket. If you look n the Keswick launch website, you will find timetable and prices. It may be worth contacting them direct..a telephone number is provided.
