    Lovely flat walk
The walk from Keswick to Threkfeld along the old railway line is a joy and enables many to see some lovely views that they may otherwise not be able to see. It really is accessible to all. The community cafe at Threkfeld is well worth a visit before returning. The only downside is the handful of dog walkers who clearly need to go to Specsavers because they cannot read the signs saying dogs should be on leads and the cyclists who think the track belongs to them and they have a divine right to push you out of the way. However don’t let the selfish few put you off this walk.

    Delightful easy walk.
Very pleasant easy amble. 3.5 mile walk with an hourly return bus at five to the hour if you don’t want to walk back. Very beautiful walk. Easy for pushchairs, bikes and wheelchairs. As other people have said some users ignore the “all dogs on a lead” rule and some bike riders are plain rude. But overall it was beautiful and this outweighed the humans with no consideration

    A nice easy walk
This is a nice very accessible walk for all abilities with lots of trees and views of the river to enjoy. It can be very busy as it is shared use but most people are considerate. The replacement bridges lack the character of the original ones but do look pretty substantial, so hopefully will last a long time.

Lovely accessible trail for all ages.
Great walk for the start of our holiday! Lovely gentle, accessible trail suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Reasonable parking at the station car park (£4 for the whole day), then we strolled along the 3 mile trail to Threlkeld and had a lovely coffee and cake at the coffee shop in the village hall. Could of had an easy walk back but decided to divert to Castlerigg stone circle!

    Nice, nearly flat walk
A nice 3 mile walk - with a good cafe in Threlkeld village at the end. Note, the village is another quarter of a mile past the end of the rail walk. It is mainly flat but a steeper section at the end.

Even heavy rain couldn’t spoil the scenery
We got wet, very wet but the walk was level, the bridges crossing the rivers wonderful, 90%+ of people adhered to the many signs asking everyone to stay left. However, it is the minority who spoil things. We can across three people walking across the path, taking up all the space left to right and ignoring the incoming cyclist with a small child. Why didn’t they just stay left? Instead, they moved to the right!! I couldn’t count the number of signs telling us all to stay left! It’s always inconsiderate people who spoil things. Fortunately, the majority can read. The distance markers are really helpful but are only on display on the way to Threkeld. Would help if they were consistently present on the reverse journey too. The info boards along the journey are really helpful, informing us of the history of the path. A few waste bins and pet waste bins would be a good idea.

    A True Gem!
What a fabulous walk. We went one way from Threlkeld to Keswick. The experience and narrative along the way made it a special walk. It was special even in the rain. Tr ice cream van half way got a miss this time.

I've walked this path for years, but the new tarmac surface running the whole length of it has ruined what previously felt like a country walk. The best bit of the old route was a little zig-zag timber walkway which has now been replaced by a tarmacked tunnel. It feels like the whole route has been built for the benefit of cyclists, rather than walkers. The weekend Keswick park run used to go along this route, fairly level, but pleasantly soft underfoot. Now, running along this track would be the same as running on a road.

Seriously, don't bother with it!

The damage is very slowly being repaired. The part between the petrol station and Low Briery is almost finished and looks like it will be great once done. Apparently there’s been a lot of uproar about the use of the asphalt but it will make it very durable. Looking forward to seeing it when it’s all completed but guessing it will be some time yet.

I did the walk both ways this morning, parking in Threlkeld.
First time I’ve ever done it, so nice to see all the effort that has gone into the project.
Despite it being mid week in not so great weather, I thought it was really busy.
Lots of cyclists , groups of runners , and general walkers.
It’s a nice walk, pretty level, and very safe surface to walk upon.
An hour each way really at a reasonable pace.
Ideal for children, lots of information boards for them to look at, places to sit.
It takes you into the heart of Keswick, by its old railway station, and all the shops and eateries are very accesible.

My only observation, and please accept this in the spirit it’s intended, and I’m a Cumbrian who lives locally; visitors might not be wowed by the views. The scenery is nice and obviously you are at the foot of Blencathra: but you need to accept it’s a nice walk in its own right , not for inspiring views.
You are following a valley walk, that’s all.
I will definitely do it again.

Visited this path today hoping to walk to Threlkeld. Unfortunately due to construction work was unable to walk far and had to take long hilly detour along private roads. Got the bus back from Threlkeld which was hourly. Pleasant village with coffee shop.

Walked the old railway line from Keswick toTherlkeld, an easy going beautifully sculptured walk. Good walking paths suitable for pushchairs & buggies. Runs from the old station in Keswick up a winding wide path up to Threlkeld through rolling countryside& woods. It is a wonderful pathway full of tunnels, bridges & cuttings from the old railway days past the old bobbin factory. A terrific walk or ride of around 10k, Parking is a problem in Keswick get there early, park for free near the line on street but it fills up quick ot is a popular place can get very busy. Take a picnic lots of places to just flop down for lunch by the rivers. Amazing walk

We visited not long after it opened in December 2020. We walked from Keswick to Threlkeld & back again. There is parking available at the old station but there are two areas with two prices so this could be confusing. The whole path has been resurfaced in tarmac so it is nice and flat for pushchairs & wheelchairs. It was extremely busy when we went with walkers and cyclists. There are signs to say keep left but no one was really taking any notice and I almost got hit by a cyclist but to be fair we were both in the wrong. There are also signs that say keep your dog on a lead but again the majority of dogs where loose. The path was mainly clean but there was the usual dog muck lying about which wasn't great. There are benches and information points regularly along the way - we took a picnic and ate it sat at one of the benches. Just outside of Keswick they have excavated an old tunnel and it is huge! It is well lit though so easy to walk through. Setting off from Keswick, you soon walk along the back of a housing estate. I don't know why its been done but all the vegetation has been cut down and you can see right into these peoples gardens and houses. They have completely lost their privacy and when its busy they'll have 100s of people walking past everyday - somewhat unfair on them. It was a good walk and something i'd do again, but not in peak time as it's just too busy.

Still partly closed with work continuing after bad flooding a few years ago. They’re spending a lot of money, parts from Keswick station have been resurfaced and bridges rebuilt. Looking forward to completion.

This is a lovely easy walk from Keswick to Threkeld. The River Greta winds backwards and forward under the path and there are some wonderful views and very pretty scenery. It is 5k one way (a little bit further if you keep walking into Threlkeld to the cafe or pub.) You can then walk back or get the bus from Threlkeld.

This is a really lovely, easy walk with gorgeous scenery. Accessible to everyone, families, pushchairs, cyclists and dogs etc so it can get busy. We visited on a Saturday in January when the weather was fine so naturally there were lots of people about. We have four dogs in our group which we kept on leads but if we were to do this again I would do this midweek when it may be quieter.

Before storm Desmond this path was along the gravel that used to underly part of the CK&P railway. It was wonderful then and easily accessible to multi- users. Now it has been turned into a tarmac road-like surface-at huge extra cost, it is out of place, an urbanised path in a beautiful rural setting. Bobbin mill tunnel was supposed to have retained its sandstone entrances but now the ends are in alien grey stone, cheaper I suppose than the sandstone promised. It will be popular but the heritage value has been lost forever.
