A short walk along the road from Willowsmere Guest House, a more attractive walk through the fields, when you will have reached the top of Orrest Head. Great view of Windermere & the town. I met people who used this walk as a pre-breakfast starter....More

A lovely walk on good path until the last 2-300 m when it becomes a bit more rocky and slippy if wet. Well worth the walk through trees, beautiful views, great photo opportunities.

Orrest Head gives you a seriously rewarding view with a huge choice of options for how you get to the top. If you're pushing a buggy or have any difficulty walking you can go up the tarmac and then switch to a gentle gravel path...More

Followed all the advice on the reviews here. Parked for free in lay-by near Windermere Hotel. Took about 30 minutes for us to walk up, if you don’t regularly exercise this could be a bit of a challenge. It is however a good walk as...More

Beautiful views from the top! Not a bad walk up the hill and definitely worth it. Bit slippery at the top so wear suitable shoes.

Was our first time walking, really enjoyed this walk, the 360 view was breathtaking! Love the plack at the top that shows the peaks

An easy hike (for most) from town. Well marked, wide trails to a gorgeous overlook. There are several benches at the top to rest and enjoy the amazing view for miles. It may take an hour round trip, or less, depending upon ability.

We walked from Bowness up to Orrest Head. Quite a steep walk, and I did wonder if I would make it to the top, but it was well worth the effort. Amazing views when you get there. The path is well marked out and accessible.

A first timers trip to the lakes at the hot spot near Windemere. We used the free parking in the lay by at the foot of the hotel and followed the well signed path to the head.

Thank Ian M

It is probably a lot less muddy than when I visited in January but the terrain was quite steep and uneven in places and I wouldn’t take a buggy.

There is parking opposite the entrance to the walk, as far as i am aware it is free street parking. I parked there for most of the day and did not get a ticket, just outside some guest houses.

There are two main ways up to Orrest Head. One is paved for all but the very top, the other is across fields & through woods and can be a bit muddy in places if the weather has been wet recently, so sufficient footwear is... More
