We stayed at hotel by the cathedral so when going to the shops, bars and restaurants we headed down STEEP HILL, which is steep then you turn the bend and realise it's getting steeper LOL we carried on down the STRAIT which is easier but still a hill (ate in a bar) then on to the high street making our... They didn't call this steep hill for no reason, it's very steep with little quaint shops either side. Very nice, leads all the way down to the high street from the castle really nice walk. Hard walk to walk up.

This is probably one of the famous places in Lincoln alongside the Castle and Cathedral. Obviously with the name Steep Hill you are expecting a rather Steep walk, particularly given the typical flat land of Lincoln otherwise! To me this Hill links 'new' Lincoln with 'old' Lincoln as travelling from the High Street and modern shops, bars and restaurants to... More

This is a very step street but it has lots of individual shops with interesting items, it's very unusual, worth the energy!

Quaint shops, unusual but friendly restaurants and some of the oldest buildings in Lincoln. Definitely worth a visit but wear sensible footwear! I was amazed when a guy passed us on a bike going up it!

Great range of shops to browse in -if you have any breath left in your body when you get to the top, that is. There is a hand rail [yes, it really is that steep] and you can take it steady, but if you have any serious health issues or problems with mobility, take the shuttle bus service which runs... More

This is a lovely part of Lincoln. The steep hill is a link between the Cathedral and the town of Lincoln. There are a nice selection of gift shops and tea rooms situated on the hill. Don't wear high heels, it is very steep! We parked by the Cathedral and walked down into the town which was lovely. Walking back... More

Steep Hill is one of many features of Lincoln which people remember and I would recommend everyone to 'have a go'. Although the walk up the hill is not particularly long it can be pretty exhausting for those who are not too fit. However, there are handrails at the steepest section to help take the strain and you can take... More

Many have described this before, Steep Hill is lovely, a collection of galleries, tea shops, interesting independent stores. Make sure you are wearing sturdy and comfortable shoes - then maybe pick up the bus back to the top of the hill!

As others have commented, this is the thoroughfare between the city centre and the cathedral/castle and though other roads and paths wind their way to the top, this is the 'straight up' route. Heading up from the city, through Guildhall Gate on High Street, the major department stores (and coffee shops!) peter out and are replaced by gift shops, tea... More
