Situated in the Cavern Quarter at the heart of the city. Liverpool's most famous street not only houses the Cavern Club but numerous references and connections to the "four lads who shook the world" and Liverpool's long musical heritage. There's shopping, bars and pubs, and come summer weekends the street is packed with partying locals and tourists.

We had a stroll down Mathew Street as we were heading to the Cavern Club. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. It was very busy and a good atmosphere with the open bars and music.

As with the "Cavern Club" just let your mind wander and imagine that you are back in the 1960's- it will make you think "WOW".

I love this street mainly because I love the cavern. This street has great history and every part of the street tells a story I love the statues that are situated in the street. Definitely somewhere you have to go when in Liverpool.

There are a number of bars in Mathew Street including the legendary Cavern Club. Some of them have deals on cocktails and shots.

Considering this street houses the cabin club it is rather dirty and dingy. The pubs here were okay but not terribly welcoming or clean. Some parts of Liverpool are so nice but this street is really not.

Always fun at any time in this street, especially if you enjoy Beatles music. Great lively vibe but can get crowded with locals and visitors alike and can be unpleasant when everyone has imbibed a bit too much. Always great music to be heard and...More

Never mind Carnaby St, Seattle, New York - if you want an authentic experience of world-shattering rock history - without the throngs of tourists and rip-off merchandise, head to Mathew St. Still humble and affordable. Proper Scouse.

Most pubs don't appear to have a dress code, they are just happy to get you through the door.
