We came here by walking along the promenade from the city centre with a group of geocachers (there's an excellent puzzle cache in the gardens). The small part of the original site is lovely but we were disappointed by the lack of a cafe even though it's on the site map, and the loos were very poor portaloos at the... More

The original International Garden Festival took place between May and October 1984 and attracted 3.8 million visitors. If you search the internet for images, you'll see what a spectacular entertainment complex it was - a huge festival hall at it's heart, with steam trains carrying passengers around the gardens; and even a giant dragon's head slide. I was 3 years... More

Yes it has seen better days back in the 80s and it fell into overgrown neglect but the paths and walks are still there and the Chinese and Japanese Gardens are still intact and there are volunteers bringing it back to life so full marks. What is not to like ..... its on the banks of the River Mersey with... More

Nice place to pop into if you are passing, but not worth going out of your way to visit. It is more of a park than gardens. It could do with an organisation like the National Trust or the RHA taking over to put money and manpower into it. And the toilets are dire, three very old portaloos.

Finally visited the gardens last week, the grounds are beautiful and an asset to the Merseyside waterfront. However, some of the main attractions look like they could do with a bit of a revamp, ponds half full and water fountains run dry . Would be amazing with a little attention given to update it.

Randomly found this while walking down the prom and it was a lovely surprise as Otterspools prom isn't much to look at, I loved the little walk ways and different water areas the Chinese and Japanese gardens and sculptures were very nice and there was wildlife dotted around the water areas I have read a few reviews stating its not... The gardens have seen better days for instance in the Japanese gardens the water level is very low so not as full as it should be which would surely attract more birds and animals around plus the waterfall no longer works Hopefully with more money put into it then more can be done but saying that don't let that put...
