When we were chucked out of a restaurant closing after lunch service, we wandered in to the Softiel to be by the warm interior of this bar. I requested the cocktail list, and having recently been introduced to some lush options using lemon juice and egg white, picked a similar concoction here. A tray of candied nuts, chips and olives... Has the atmosphere and vibrancy of a traditional English pub as well as looking the part. You can imagine you are in a Victorian pub.

The Scotch is a great pub / music venue. The tiny stage and area in the basement has held many gigs such as Jimi Hendrix's, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and recently Right Said Fred who was doing a special VIP event playing some of their latest songs from their upcoming album Exactly. The bar area on the first... More

Had a business meeting here. What a fantastic place. All the staff were attentive and so polite. Could not have asked for more. Swift service and every order correct. With some hotels the service is overwhelming but here the staff were on hand but not seen unless needed. I can't praise them enough as it made for a very enjoyable... More

If you are caught up in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London and require an elegant sanctuary for a drink (be it alcoholic or non-alcoholic) then the St James Bar at the Sofitel Hotel (directly opposite the Institute of Directors) is hard to beat. The service is first-class and you can be assured of a warm... More

My friend and I celebrated her birthday with champagne afternoon tea and cocktails. Whilst seated in two well appointed velvet clad armchairs by the fireplace and the quentisential sounds of the harp playing in the background our indulgent afternoon tea affair begun at the Rose Lounge. The decor it must be said is not for the faint hearted lol. The... More

Outstanding staff that can't do enough for you, exceptional french cuisine, fantastic wine and drinks menus, a plethora of different champagnes. Classy decor, laid back wealthy atmosphere, what an experience. Recommended by my friend (Mr. Lucky) I wasn't sure what to expect, although he couldn't rate the place high enough. We were met by the Maitrè D who showed us... More

My husband and I discovered the St James Bar last spring as we had booked the Balcon for our anniversary dinner. Like everyone else has said, the service is superb and the place just has a really nice ambience. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We have been back a few times since then when we are in... Staying in St. James's

Neighbourhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
