A fantastic visit to Barbican Art to see the Japanese House post 1945 exhibition. Immersive experience complete with aspects of houses to explore - the tea room was a highlight as was the carefully crafted lighting which casts shadows in the most surprising corners. Not too crowded when we visited and it took us about 1 1/2 hours to go... More

I went there last Monday, because I couldn't find anything else interesting to do and had a great experience. I learned a lot about Japanese architecture, culture, the way of thinking and daily life in Japan, very interesting stuff. If you are interested in architecture or sociology, give it a try. It isn't free, 14.50 per adult, but for me... More

Visited exhibition at the The gallery (The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined). What a dull dreary experience. Overly dark, silent as a library, unsmiling staff, no discernible flow to exhibits ... managed to get to the 2nd floor and finally decided it was so like walking around a crypt I gave up. (Compared to recent exhibitions elsewhere: Vogue - 100 years, Alexander... More

A friend and I had both wanted to see the Strange and Familiar exhibition and I am so glad we were able to go. The exhibition was laid out in a really interesting way around the gallery with little nooks. Different lighting was used for different photographers (not by much - we just found some had dimmed lighting, others bright).... More

The Barbican Gallery is harder to get to than some of London's more familiar museums but always has interesting exhibitions and occasionally blockbuster shows like this one. Room after room of top international photographers showing their perspectives on Britain - any one would be a fascinating exhibition by itself. Together they are just stunning. And in the Barbican's cool spaces... More

Went to see Imran Qureshi show today and in the midst of appreciating these beautiful art installation suddenly there was an awful attendant asking me to leave because I wore a ruck sack. There were others wearing same and were left alone. Terrible experience that ruined the whole artistic experiences. Staff needs to be trained more to be professional!!

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
