Far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protegee Christine Daae is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End, after more than 10,000 performances.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's mesmerizing score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.

If you don't want to be leaning forward, be sure to get seats in the lower level. If you are in the balcony you are a long way from the stage and it's hard to see detail. Voices are strong, costumes and grand, music is also very good. If you don't know "the story" it's best to read about it... More

I've seen the Phantom before, in 2009, and enjoyed the performance. This time however I just felt like wanting to hit a fast-forward button. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood after a full day in London, but the performance just didn't excite and didn't have that element of repeat viewing that other shows have. We were on the balcony... This is the third time in twenty years we have seen this show and it never fails to enthrall us. We chose wonderful seats in A17 and A18 central on the first tier, great leg room for long legged husbands. As soon as the music starts you are transported in to a wonderful world of mystery. All of cast have... More

Absolutely outstanding show with a phenomenal cast, staging, and performance. The show gave goosebumps through-out. We sat in row C of the royal circle and the seats were great, couldn't fault them even though it cut of the very back left and front left of the stage that didn't matter. Her majesty's theatre is beautiful with very comfortable seats. Go... More

I am not the biggest fan of the traditional musicals but I am a convert to the Phantom after visiting the show. The staging is simply stunning (without giving anything away) with surprises and show stopping moments aplenty. The cast was excellent with a stand out performance by the phantom himself. I was totally spellbound by the show and massively... More

Some parts were great especially the better known songs and the special effects but I'm not that keen on opera and so didn't enjoy those parts.

Have seen this play in NY and Raleigh and now here- as well as movie and each is a little different. The visuals were terrific and dramatic. This one really made me feel so very sad for him - the actor did a good job. Voices of all are really good, sets and costumes sumptuous and theater pleasant. Do go...

Unbelievably busy on arrival, not much the staff could do about everyone in London being on the same streets at once. Professionally brought in to the theatre without a hiccup in sight. The usual grumble of those God himself could not please however, when they were silenced by the impressiveness of this incredible show...you could see why it's been a success... More

Staying in St. James's

Neighbourhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
