I don't agree that this area is too commercialised as this is what this is all about with the theatres and restaurants here which are numerous and various in their design and cultures giving you such a choice that it can be difficult to choose Such great views from here looking out onto the Thames can be quite relaxing as... Not sure what the new reviewers are reviewing here as they do not make sense as this is an area of London and not a restaurant or a hotel This area is vibrant and there is always something going on here outside or even in the restaurants or coffee shops/bars and being right near the Thames gives it a great... Stayed in a hotel nearby and decided to go for a walk and look for a place to eat. It was a great evening! Had amazing food, took lots of pictures, found a couple of great places and ended up in a hotel bar. Great way to spend the evening.

Great to visit at any time of the year - summer for the crowds and street entertainers, a stroll along the river, visit some of London's leading cultural hotspots or simply to eat, drink and watch people go by.

Southbank is a cool place to visit, it gets very busy but worth joining the crowds for the vibe - particularly on an evening. There are food kiosks and street performers galore and usually gangs of skateboarders doing their stunts. The river is on one side and there are loads of other cool stuff to call at like the London... More

Southie is the bank you go to for the hip, the weird, and the offbeat when old school London starts to overwhelm

Starters cold & over cooked. Very slow service. Waiter asked if we wanted any peppers, requested Black Pepper, advised we don't have any pepper !!! Refused to pay for any food, paid for drinks we had and left - Not Good, Very Poor.

A nice place to visit although very, very busy. Still wouldn't miss it out of a trip to London unless I didn't have much time. Lots of buskers along the South Bank of varying quality. Of course, also has the cultural institutions such as the British Film Institute, South Bank Centre and the National Theatre.

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
