We had wanted to do a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament for some time and we were so thrilled we did! We had an excellent tour guide whose knowledge of Westminster Palace, it's history and how our parliament works was quite exceptional. It is a fabulously interesting place, teaming with history and we can highly recomend it to... More

We paid for the tour and it was great value. We toured both Lords and the Commons and were shown great art while hearing interesting stories. Our guide said the Houses will close for major restorations and Parliament will sit elsewhere for the duration. The tour was great but did require some stamina, as there are not many places to... we were lucky to visit at the invitation of our MP and got to see behind the scenes as well. Plenty of history and if you look carefully you can spot MPs its a bit like star spotting. Worth sitting in the gallery and watching the debates. time your visit to see the speakers parade which is an historical tradition.

An excellent tour of about 1 1/2 hours arrive in good time an spend some time looking around the great hall (where the tours begin) amazing oak ceiling and check the floor for brass plates which tell you who lay in state and where. There are guided tours and audio. I have tried both and thought the guided tour was more interesting. The staff is very willing to answer any questions and enriched our experience with their stories. There is a café that has very good food and prices are good.

A group of us went on a tour of the Houses Of Parliament on a dreary Saturday in January. The visitors meet in the Westminstal Hall, which in itself is a magnificent building. Our tour guide was called Shaun and he was brilliant! As we toured through the parliament buildings at a perfect pace to take everything in, Shaun brought... More

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
