I found the museum by accident and was curious to explore it. Order of St John has a fascinating history spanning out through centuries. There is a temple, the court and the crypt as well as museum to be seen.

Looking for somewhere to visit before catching an afternoon train from Kings Cross, I chose to visit this museum in Clerkenwell which is a short walk from the Farringdon Road. There are regular guided tours which are highly recommended as they take you to areas of the museum which are not normally accessible, and also to the priory church and... More

We loved it. The museum is small and focuses on the history of the order rather than the current work of the St John Ambulance (check out the website thoroughly). The most interesting parts can only be seen on a tour which lasted just over 1 hour and was well worth the suggested donation of £5. Our guide was tremendous;... More

The museum is small, and there isn't much in way of exhibitions about the current work of St John. The optional tour of the gate, the gardens and the church was well worth going on, the guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

My daughter is a St John Ambulance volunteer and particularly wanted to see the museum during our recent visit to London. We chose to visit on a Sunday and unfortunately the tube was closed so after taking both the tube and bus followed by a walk we found the museum. There are no signposts to navigate to museum. Museum has... More

This venue is full of character and the team running the museum were so professional. The building has fantastic architecture. The wedding room upstairs was a fitting backdrop to a fantastic wedding. The museum itself is well worth a visit.

We had a delightful volunteer guide take us around this museum which has sets out the history of the Order of St John from the time it was first founded through to it becoming St Johns Ambulance. The only way to get into parts of the building is on one of these guided tours (check website for days and times)... More

Actually it's well worth a visit as we found it really interesting after stumbling on it by chance. Lots of information about the order which became St Johns Ambulance Brigade.

This is a wonderful little museum, tucked away in Clerkenwell yet only minutes from Farringdon Station and plenty of bus routes. If you get the opportunity to visit when a guided tour is on offer (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year, with tours at 11.00 am and 2.30 pm; also on Sundays in the summer - check their website),... Staying in Shoreditch

Neighbourhood Profile
Shoreditch
The western front of the edgy East End, Shoreditch is a perennially trendy haven for anything “street” – be it art, food, or fashion. With its handful of well connected transportation links dotting its perimeter, along with an ever increasing variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants, it's easy to explore this trend-conscious and youth-oriented neighbourhood. There's a lingering post-industrial grit about Shoreditch, but because it shares a border with “The City” financial district, the influence from its upscale neighbour can result in fascinating outcomes.
