Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

4 of us went and we all agreed that the show gets off to a slow start and was without much content! But the second half was much more enjoyable and Lola was amazing. I applaud all the guys in the kinky boots (I know how hard it is to walk in them)

A slow first 15 minutes but it got going once Lola & co. started strutting their stuff. The solo's with 'Charlie' dragged a bit. Overall a good fun night out.

If you want to see a musical that has a story then see this! This is the second time we have seen it, first time being on broadway and this production did not dissapoint! The theatre can get a little cold at times so I'd advise take something to put on. The actual show is amazing with excellent production values... More

Came to London to see this show with my husband and 17 & 19 year old daughters and we all loved it! It was outstanding! The singing was fantastic & the drag queens were out of this world! Also loved the comedy acting of Lauren in particular. Probably not suitable for younger children but I loved every minute of it... More

I had sat watching ror the first 10-15 minutes thinking i may not be returning for the 2nd half, as the setting was quite dull/not too interesting, but then along came LOLA and from that moment... We visited on a Friday evening. This is one show that takes you with it from the start. Matt Henry is absolutely superb as Lola. His natural stage presence, inspired performance and great singing voice ensure the show is a winner. Well staged with a clear story-line based on true life events and some great one-liners I defy you not... More

Booked this same day via TKTS and was not disappointed. It is based on the movie and with a great set and strong performances from the leads as Charlie and Lola, it will get you clapping and cheering as it bounces along. It is unusual to go to a show that has some rapturous applause at every number! Go and... More

We loved this musical! The actors/Singers/Dancers were very good. The music amazing and the costumes- wowzeer! The story was really very funny at times. it truly transformed us into the play and was a real escape. Absolutely a joy to be entertained by this very talented ensemble. Everyone will love it. I would say -it's a must see
