- ndw78Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom2,880 contributionsAmazing area with so much to do and loads of it is freeI was staying in the island gardens area to see a gig at the O2 so a whistle stop visit but absolutely loved it and already booked to come back. This area is so vibrant with so much to see and do. Amazing transport links via the underground (tube) and the DLR which is the dock lands overground trains. Use them the same way as the underground but enjoy the views! Great links to the cityVisited October 2023Travelled soloWritten October 3, 2023
- JAYUnited Arab Emirates505 contributionsGreat area to visitVery impressed by how much it has changed. Took the Elizabeth line from Heathrow to Canary Warf, the trip was easy and very comfortable and took about 35min. On arrival early evening the sky line of Canary Warf was very beautiful, walked around the area and it was so nice, clean and full of life. Great restaurants and options on the water, after dinner at the big East which was great and will post a review about it I went to the mall and Waw 3 floors underground that have so many shops and restaurants that are perfect when the weather is hot great. Overall a nice area to go. RegardsVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 18, 2023
- MinnieM1928Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom416 contributionsEnjoyed a Visit to Canary WharfWe came to spend the afternoon at Canary Wharf after visiting Excel for an exhibition. we parked in the centre of everything at Cabot Square, everything is pretty much a few minutes walk from the centre and it is easy to find your way around. Canary Wharf is so clean and well looked after and we felt perfectly safe wherever we walked, it was a really cold day but all the shopping areas link underground so you don't have to walk around much outside if you don't want to. There are loads of places to eat and drink, and the place really comes alive in the evening. We will come back in the summer and walk along the river, have a drink outside people watching and do the things we didn't get time to do this time.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2024
- Joasi23South Yorkshire, United Kingdom1,926 contributionsSkyscrapers and restaurantsVibrant exciting area of London that is very different on a weekend when the vibe changes without all the hustle and bustle of the city workers. Lots of places to eat and walk , views over the Thames towards the shard. Jubilee and Elizabeth line provide easy transport, DlR is more fun as you see snippets of old London such as billingsgate market.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten January 23, 2024

There were some impressive light sculptures and it was very nice to get a map and wander around Canary Wharf for a couple of hours. It was too busy unfortunately and we weren't willing to queue for everything. We had an excellent meal in Wagamama.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten January 28, 2024

- Karoli24653 contributionsNice areaCanary Wharf is a new area located at the old docklands. You will find there a lot of new modern skyscrapers and other new buildings. You can do there nice walks and enjoy the clean area. There are also some new restaurants. The whole area is clean, modern and valuable. I enjoyed my walk in the afternoon there.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten June 3, 2024
- zuvBucharest, Romania36,697 contributionsWonderfulA modern, wonderful neighborhood! A lot of new buildings, with impressive architecture, separated by canals on which various boats circulate. Restaurants, bars, cafes, several small but beautiful parks, Museum of London Docklands, Crossrail Place Roof Garden. Very well connected to public transport by metro, DLR, ferries and buses.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten June 24, 2024
- MZSydney, Australia354 contributionsnot a tourist destination but a lovely base to stay in LondonStayed with my daughter at Canary Wharf, and it was a refreshing change from tourist-heavy areas. This lovely suburban spot features modern high-rise buildings and has all amenities at your fingertips, making it easy to live here. While there's not much to see for tourists, the Tube provides access to everywhere. If you, like me, prefer avoiding crowds, it's a great choice.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 2, 2024

We have gone to the light display for the last few years and this year there was a definite budget cut. I appreciate the display is free to attend but it was disappointing that there was little that was interactive this year. A lot of white lights in small trees and small displays as well as plastic balls in the water. Last year there was UV painted recycling made by children in the ponds so rather a surprising choice now. Hoerver we still enjoyed a walk around the area and it was a popular event

Visited during lockdown to see the light festival which was absolutely amazing. As the afternoons get dark and cold this was a treat being outdoors and looking at all the light installations in the area. As Canary Wharf is situated by the Thames you get fantastic sunsets, views across the river and scenic city views as a contrast to the ultra modern steel and glass architecture of the skyscraper skyline. Worth more than a visit to walk around.

Each year Canary Wharf hosts a spectacular Winter Light's display. It is well organised, with guides throughout, distributing maps and pointing the way. To see all the lights involves walking quite a way and it can take a few hours, but you are amply rewarded. A throng of people, yet no great sense of overcrowding, multiple toilets and eateries, a happy, safe and stimulating atmosphere, wonderful for children of all ages. With so many negative images foisted upon us, to witness those of every colour, nation, philosophy and faith sharing this innocent experience together and, with childhood glee, participating in throwing little balls across coloured water features, was a treat and pointed to a world whee it is possible to dwell in harmony.

A city hub for city workers in the high rise skyscrapers, with an awesome shopping mall and food court. There are also places to eat outside, with street food stalls across the bridge. The place lights up in January with the Winter Lights festival.
A great little adventure with the whole family or friends, and especially with the little ones. The neon lights art work really does brighten up the January dark evenings, and with Christmas over this is really something to get you out of the house and do together with friends, family and little one. There are 26 neon art displays placed around Canary Wharf to go and see. There are staff dotted around the place with maps of where the displays, so don't forget to grab one!!! We did a tour walking around Canary Wharf showcasing some of the amazing neon artwork. Search in YouTube for Geek Street Travels and Canary Wharf Winter Lights 2020. I went on a recommendation for a Burns night lunch time three or four course set meal. The menu is not what was published online. You have four options. 3 options for £45 and 4 options for £52. There are no vegetarian options. They don’t even take into account any dietary restrictions. I had the haggis with nips and tatties. That’s a largeish meatball that tasted like heavily breaded sage and onion stuffing served on a scoop of school mash and swede with thin school gravy. Then I had the smoked salmon and just when you thought things could get better but they didn’t. Basic strips of salmon with a snot shot of capers, salt, pepper dotted around the plate, whipped cream cheese and a lemon cheek. There was enough there to feed a less than hungry toddler. Then onto the dessert, the driest oatcakes made from the driest oats this side of the Alpen muesli. A tiny cheese board of mismatched cheeses, blue cheese, definitely not Stilton, tiny piece of goat cheese, Camembert and some random hard cheese. A tiny dish of honey, 7 grapes and 4 thin slices of pear. Well that was a wallet biopsy no one needs. The staff are nice. The food is a lot like the old saying never judge a book by its cover, well the same goes here, presented well and no one will notice that food mediocrity hit an all time high will this lack lustre performance. Robert Burns would have left at this insult of what is purporting to be true Scottish food. I would not insult it even the cheapest mock blended whiskey to be drank near it. I can see why many people have rated this establishment as poor. The insulting part was that apparently I could not have paid online when I made the booking and secondly they wanted to charge me with a service charge for this! There was no bang for my buck. There wasn’t enough food to feed a toddler. Style over substance and mediocrity. I don’t know how they have won so many awards? Well, I can say this for sure, some woman wasn’t happy either as when I used the toilet, a full toilet roll had been thrown down it. If you want genuine Scottish food, make friends with a Scot or better still visit Scotland. In fact the food was so bad that I was eating the mint humbugs in my pocket all the way home and bought myself some fresh cream eclairs as an actual dessert! Oh, and one last thing, when you give someone a cheeseboard you tell them what cheese is being served, that’s basic standard restaurant practice. Some people can’t eat certain cheeses.

At the heart of London's historic area Docklands. Great mini Sky Scrapers.
A financial powerhouse, great city hub.
Visited for few hours with better half in a bright sunny day (September 21)
Enjoyed the APP solo boat competition.
Fine dining area from snacks to full meal. It must be worth visiting during Christmas days with lights.

We came for lunch but stayed for the light festival. We spent a couple of hours following the free map to see about 20 installations. The best in my opinion were the ones in Crossrail place, you need to queue for the two in the basement, and the installations at the far west of the trail.

There are a few good exhibits, generally the simple ones such as the floating earth, the big red loop and the illuminated benches.
But this set of exhibits is confusingly scattered over a fairly large area that involves crossing roads with confusing crossings so you are not sure if people or cars have priority, there are also narrow areas of pavement beside roads with cars, where the many tourists visiting the exhibits are mingling precipitously while trying to work out which way to go.
As if this was not challenging enough, exhibits are arranged at multiple levels. So you feel as if you are a pawn in some kind of three-dimensional chess game with cars going to and fro.
I would urge the organisers to get a room and to focus on the simpler and appealing exhibits rather than the peculiar and loud ones which you wander around wondering what were they thinking when they came up with this?

We visited Canary Wharf on a midweek early afternoon in July to take a look around somewhere we had not visited before. We travelled here by train using the Jubilee Line and after our visit departed via the Docklands Light Railway both lines serving the area.
Leaving the Jubilee Line Canary Wharf station via its iconic escalators, we immediately found ourselves in the Jubilee Park which is a lovely shady area with smoot paths. Lots of shade from the trees and water flowing over a series of raised tanks cascading from one section to another. Sculptures and other ornamentation are to be found along the pathways and there are refreshment facilities nearby though these do not intrude on the sense of tranquillity to any great extent. It is hard to imagine that the visitor is in the middle of an area hosting high rise office and domestic accommodation.
The walk led us to the South Dock where we marvelled at the buildings towering over us, I have never been to New York but would imagine this is what it may be like. The South Dock is a left over from when cargo ships used the Port of London to import and export cargoes all over the world and the proximity of the former industrial dock area and the new imposing buildings makes a sharp contrast. The trains of the Docklands Light railway can be seen passing the area on elevated lines.
There were some interesting boats moored in the South Dock, but also some wildlife too, we saw a family of ducks pass by in a long line and also some Cormorants drying their wings after diving into the water for a meal. We crossed the South Quay footbridge and explored the opposite side of the South Dock, and here we found many restaurants and other eating outlets preparing for the anticipated evening trade.
We finished our visit by walking to Heron Quays DLR station and catching a train back into Central London and home. We are glad that we took the opportunity to visit the area of Canary Wharf, I think with the time we had we only got to see a small percentage and would like to revisit to see some more.

In the evening yes, you can visit with your son. There are pub, restaurant and museum. More later I don't know it. In the night I prefer to stay in a good restaurant near the hotel... bye

It could be a place where you could rendezvous with your friend but that rather depends on whether he is familiar with the area. There are other well known landmarks at Canary Wharf such as One Canada Water (the prominent tower office block) or the tube station. Hope that helps.

Are you referring to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich? If so, than yes - it's a place you should visit. I must confess, I've only seen it from the outside although, the views from Greenwich towards the Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf are worth the experience.
