- Josue CNew Haven, Connecticut508 contributionsSerene PlaygroundOn our walk through Kensington Gardens, we visited the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. I find the the area to be serene and peaceful. The fountain resembles a flowing river more than a traditional fountain. During warmer days, people can cool themselves by dipping their feet in the water, kids would splash around. Overall if you are walking around Kensington Gardens, pass by and visit the fountain, especially if you little ones.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 31, 2023
- pabPeak District National Park, United Kingdom287 contributionsAfternoon strollHave not been for a number of years and to be honest it was underwhelming and disappointing (as I felt last time). Princess Diana deserved something better than this although the concept was probably a good one. I can see that the children would like it but give it a revamp and maybe plant some trees or something!!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 5, 2024
- Elaine F14 contributionsDiana’s Memory Deserves Far Better . . .While I understand that design simplicity serves Diana’s memory well, my heart sank. The photo shown was taken in far better days. The “fountain” looked like a mundane lazy river track — done better by golf courses and water parks. Arguably, it was “soothing” to sit by the water stream, and children and adults are allowed to sit by the water and immerse their feet. But the water, quite honestly, looked dirty. The grass surrounding the water track was brown and dry, and the area is obviously not properly irrigated. Diana’s memory deserves much better, IMHO. If you stumble upon this “fountain” you may stand (or sit) there, no doubt scratching your head. Don’t make a huge effort to visit or to find it, especially not with little ones on a gray and chilly day. Sad.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten July 2, 2024

Poor Diana must be spinning in her grave and the royals must be wetting themselves with this dreadful offering to her life. It states its a memorial FOUNTAIN so let me put this to the test by definition a fountain is.....
1.an ornamental structure in a pool or lake from which one or more jets of water are pumped into the air.
2.a natural spring of water.
3.verb to spurt or cascade like a fountain.
I saw NONE of the above its just a sort of circular cemented feature with water running around it nothing spurting in the air at all hugely embarrassing for them to call it a fountain clearly this doesn't come under the trades description act. My advise don.t bother walking all the way to see it concentrate on the lake itself with all th birds that live there.

Firstly, useful to know its free/ It will only take you about 10-15 minutes but others go longer for a picnic or to read a book. Good place to take kids. Everyone (including adults) can play in the water when its warm and sunny.

My honest reaction to seeing this memorial fountain for Princess Diana was, "this is a disgrace!" There is a small sign which explains more about the construction materials than any of Diana's many humanitarian contributions to the world. In fact, I thought that the sign's explanation of the memorial was petty, noting that the movement of the water ("cascades, swirls and bubbles before meeting in a calm pool at the bottom") was meant to represent Diana's life. I think it's pretty clear what the source of that emotional turbulence was, and the memorial that closely resembles a water runoff chute seems to say, "please do not let Diana outshine us anymore!" There are no flowers. There is no statue or plaque. As another reviewer noted, if you arrive here after viewing Queen Victoria's memorial to Albert (spectacular!) the difference is staggering. I read some of the 5 star reviews to try to understand how people could rate this memorial so highly, and I think it is goodwill toward Princess Diana herself rather than thinking it is a worthy tribute to her memory. I do acknowledge that young children enjoy splashing in the water. So, if you have young children, by all means, do visit the memorial, splash around, and remember the images of Princess Diana visiting children's hospitals all over the world and hugging children. If the goal of the humble memorial design was to emphasize that Diana (who had been stripped of the HRH title following her divorce) was the "People's Princess," then perhaps my rating is too low. Visit and decide for yourself. Diana deserves a 5 star memorial, and this "fountain" fell short for me.

The memorial fountain to "The People's Princess" is located in Hyde Park. There is a walk that you can follow to get to the fountain and beyond. This was how I was able to locate the fountain.
It is a circuit and you could drop a leaf in the fountain and follow it along.
It's quite a relaxing place to sit and contemplate however if you are one of those people who needs the toilet after sitting near water you needn't worry. There is a cafe nearby with toilet facilities including disabled.
I am not sure it reminds me of the former Princess of Wales but it is a unique tribute.

We visited on a very hot day in early September having walked for what seemed like miles around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. We had very hot feet so a sit down and was very welcome and dangling our red hot feet in the icy cold water was BLISS! We were surrounded by squealing, happy children paddling and walking up and down the slopes (even though the signs say it is prohibited). It was incredibly busy which I guess is the whole point.

Great place to enjoy the sun in the park, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Kids will enjoy a paddle so don’t forget your towel ! Easy parking next door and also next to the cafe and loos. The do limit numbers so get there early on a warm day

Ditch with water. Did not feel special. Not sure what the two security staff, one at entrance and exit were for - people just walked through the 'No Entry' gate past the security man who said nothing so a pointless waste of money to have these people paid to do nothing. It was good to see the children having fun splashing in the water, that was about it.

The fountain is aesthetically underwhelming and is marred by the presence of too many people with their kids splashing in the water. Maybe Diana would have enjoyed that aspect of it. We’re big fans of Princess Diana but we just walked by.

This memorial is popular mainly as a space for folks (primarily kids) to take a dip in the flowing water structure (a ditch? I dunno) and appreciate their surroundings. On hot days, I bet this would feel refreshing—at the risk of appearing weird, I stuck my feet in the water to sort of get cool and try to do what others kinda were doing. I would’ve enjoyed more direct tributes/references to Princess Diana here, and although I’m sure there are somewhere, I just didn’t have too much time to scout them out.
I recommend stopping by for a short while when in Hyde Park.

Is the water chlorinated and safe to go into? Have a little one who will likely get it on his mouth lol:)

I had some additional information on this, The entrance poster advises that the water is constantly being refreshed from a chalk aquifer approximately 100 meter (300 feet) below the ground.
