While being shown around the area by a friend we visited the very unique but very meaningful memorial fountain to Princess Diana. Not at all what we were expecting, not your usual fountain. Like to streams running from the top of a hill in different direction and meeting at the bottom in a calm pool. Meant to show what her life was like and I suppose in lots of ways it does. Makes you stand back , take it all in and think about the lady who this fountain is all about . Nice to have been there and seen it.

On our walk through Kensington Gardens, we visited the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. I find the the area to be serene and peaceful. The fountain resembles a flowing river more than a traditional fountain. During warmer days, people can cool themselves by dipping their feet in the water, kids would splash around. Overall if you are walking around Kensington Gardens, pass by and visit the fountain, especially if you little ones.

Have not been for a number of years and to be honest it was underwhelming and disappointing (as I felt last time). Princess Diana deserved something better than this although the concept was probably a good one. I can see that the children would like it but give it a revamp and maybe plant some trees or something!!

While I understand that design simplicity serves Diana’s memory well, my heart sank. The photo shown was taken in far better days. The “fountain” looked like a mundane lazy river track — done better by golf courses and water parks. Arguably, it was “soothing” to sit by the water stream, and children and adults are allowed to sit by the water and immerse their feet. But the water, quite honestly, looked dirty. The grass surrounding the water track was brown and dry, and the area is obviously not properly irrigated. Diana’s memory deserves much better, IMHO. If you stumble upon this “fountain” you may stand (or sit) there, no doubt scratching your head. Don’t make a huge effort to visit or to find it, especially not with little ones on a gray and chilly day. Sad.
