Me and my friend booked to do the Haunted Happenings Tour here on 21st September. We travelled two hours only to be told upon arrival that the event was cancelled, as Charlton House had double booked. Everybody was baffled especially as the other event was a wedding...which surely would have been booked many months in advance?? We were beyond disappointed and quite frankly can’t understand how something like this could have happened-clearly your events team are incapable. We work in the same industry and a situation like this seems simply impossible to get into and should never happen. I’d like to point out this was no fault of the Haunted Happenings Team, they were just as annoyed as us and it was clear they felt embarrassed. This situation has put us of returning and if anybody reading this is thinking of hosting an event here, I’d seriously reconsider due to the lack of organisation skills and common sense this place has. Thank you for ruining our weekend with an unnecessary 4 hour drive-if a zero star rating was an option I would of given you that :)

As promised I have gone away and investigated what happened on the evening of the event in question, and wanted to ensure that I came back to you with a response from the Trust and team at Charlton House. All paranormal events that take place within Charlton House and especially during our peak wedding and events months are advised that events will be taking place in the house up until the hours of 10pm/10.30pm, and this has never presented an issue for us in the many years that we have been hosting paranormal events. Therefore, the event being double booked with a wedding was not entirely what happened on the evening in question. Unfortunately when the Haunted Happenings Team arrived on this evening to set up, our new pop up Pizza restaurant in the Minstrel Hall was still in service and the house was still very active with L'Arte Della Pizza due to close at 10.30pm, and unfortunately due to this the Haunted Happenings Team decided to cancel the entire event. We appreciate and fully understand that arriving for a paranormal evening at a house that is still active is not ideal and in mind of this Haunted Happenings have been fully reimbursed and received a full apology from the Trust, and they have rebooked to return to Charlton House for future events. I know that this explanation will not take away your disappointment and the inconvenience of having driven so far to then be told that the event had been cancelled, for which we truly apologise, however, I wanted to reassure you that customer service is very important to us here at the Trust, and the team at Haunted Happenings are happy with the apology and compensation that we have given. Many thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback as this will help us to improve our operational standards for the future.

I first contacted Charlton house to arrange my Baby shower by email and Imogen was so helpful. They made my day so special the staff are the house were so accommodating for my guests strange dietary requirements. The food was delicious especially the cakes! The house and grounds are beautiful. They even did a lovely touch of putting baby decorations on the cupcakes which was a small gesture but really thoughtful. Its a reasonable price too, I will definitely return and recommend people to go there. Thank you again

Not impressed at all. Charlton House runs a series of lunchtime concerts where musicians kindly play free of charge. They put in hours of practice time and don't even get petrol money. Anyway, my wife played at a lunchtime concert, so I took our 3 year old to watch. Before the concert even started, a very grumpy man came over and snapped at us that I'd have to keep my daughter very quiet or she would spoil the video recording. Remember that it's a recording of my wife that he was taking about! Anyway, we sat at the back and the concert started. She was a little excited and started taking quietly to me so I let her look at some photos on my phone, on silent mode. Problem solved, except Mr Grumpy came over after one of the pieces and told me phones had to be off or they'd spoil the video. I explained that it was on silent, to keep her quiet but he just stomped off. So I turned it off and of course she was upset so we left. I was left speechless how an organisation too mean to pay people to entertain their own customers could be so rude when the performer brings her own child to listen. Very poor. Their future audiences will be very small of they don't do a bit more to welcome children now!

It is at the heart of our Concert series that they are open to everyone and so please be assured that we will be speaking to those involved and investigating this incident. We went ton a Friday firstly for a cup of tea and coffee, secondly for a spot of lunch in the cafe and thirdly for a lovey concert in the room beneath the old library, rounded off with a sunny walk and sit down in the lovely gardens. What a gem of a place with good disabled level access and lots to do. A real community resource. First, the building itself is a jacobean house with some lovely original features such as tiled wals and wood panelling. The gardens offer lots of secret corners and the Amnesty International Peacegarden is a tranquil suntrap with avariety os plants and a gem of peace and quiet. The cafe offers simple lunch specials with for example, baked potatoes, quiche and salad or a variety of vegetable pasties or meat pasties and sausage rolls as well as ciabatta and soup. All freshly made and good value for money. Plenty of time to sit and chat and a nice atmosphere. The concert of piano recital music by Schubert was excellent and donations were welcome but it was free. A wonderful day out with plenty to do.

I was touring Greenwich, Blackheath and heading to Woolwich when I hopped off the bus at Charlton House on a sunny July afternoon. It's one of the finest examples of Jacobean architecture around, dating immediately after the Elizabethan period during the reign of James I in the early 1600s. The house has marvelous details including grotesque faces on the facade and delicate glass windows that look Germanic. It's really beautiful. It has a cafe inside and a large lawn in back. I just dropped by for 20 minutes to admire the building itself.
