I first went to the National Railway museum last year and really enjoyed it, it's fantastic that it's a free museum, and you certainly don't mind paying a donation when you see what's on offer. This time we went especially to see the Flying Scotsman, and we weren't disappointed. It was displayed in the main hall and there was an... More

So many trains to see but all my 4yr old wanted to do was ride on the same Thomas ride that is in our local Tesco! great day out with the family, something for all ages any time of year. Although free to enter, take plenty of cash. they have worked out plenty of ways for you to spend your... More

Had to squeeze in a visit to the NRM during our short break in York. As I have 3 daughters aged between 9 and 14 I thought they may get bored but all found it interesting and it was great the Flying Scotsman was in show. Good number of eating venues and space to eat a picnic if preferred.

We visited in Easter week and had a lovely time. I was a little sad to see the Mallard relegated to a side room rather than out on display in the main hall as I remembered it from visiting as a child 35 years ago. The cafe was very, very busy but the Mallard simulator was fun and we found... More

Thomas and Friends obsessed toddler loved the museum. Best of all it is free so you can come and go as you please. Planning to go back for a second visit again during our stay.

One of the best museums I have been to. IT's free to enter and is laid out like old fashion rail stations of the steam age. It's a great day out for the family, plenty to see and do the kids will love it, young and old.

Plenty to do and see for big kids like myself! Always a great place to visit. They usually have frequent workshops and demonstrations.

Visited again,,this time with my partner' s son and grandson, specifically to see the Flying Scotsman, but as they had never been before we also browsed around as there is plenty to see here. Again we used park & ride, which stops right at the museum entrance, and this time we were amazed that the queue was quite short, and... More
