This highly authentic Georgian house has survived some years as a dance hall and cinema, but you would not know it. It is well worth listening to the (mainly) ladies who will entertainingly recount the story of the room they occupy, as well as the...More

A city centre house which has been beautifully restored and furnished with Georgian furniture. A ticket is valid for a year and until the end of the year they have a splendid exhibition called 'The Pursuit of Pleasure'. Recommended.

Definitely worth a visit when in York, marvellous Georgian town house with the most stunning staircase, including busts on the walls of Shakespeare and Newton. Lovely well informed guides in each room, although was very hot inside.

Very interesting & each "Room Host" would give you information on each individual room. I presume they were all volunteers & expected Mrs Overall to appear at any stage....you'll see what I mean!

We visited here at the weekend. It was a lovely house to look round. There was someone in every room to talk to you about what you were looking at and to put together the story.

Sandwiched between the Yorvik Museum and the Castle Museum carpark, this house is not to be missed. It is small and has had a very chequered career - cinema, dancing school, but now lovingly restored. The shell has been furnished by the Terry Trust with...More

Beautiful , original Georgian furniture, clocks, and a few other items in situ, although many other pieces and the decorations have been (tastefully and faithfully) reproduced. No need to buy a guide book as information booklet as well as helpful, informative and keen, volunteer staff...More

The combination of a really enthusiastic and informed tour guide, and the completeness of the interior made this an unexpectedly interesting visit. There's a nice little display at the end too which has some great details about the seedier side of Georgian life. I sometimes...More
