This is one of the four main Bars into the City, and has its own history which you can read from the display boards. It is the northern gateway into the City and is very near to York Minster.

This is a great historical gate, showing entry into old York. The plaque on the gate states that this former Roman border wall of York was cut through to fit Princess Margaret's carriage (Henry VIII's sister). Enjoy!

Bootham Bar is on the site of one of the four main entrances to the Roman fortress. A gateway here for nearly 2000 years. Evidence tells us it was a toll gate 1280. This Gate to York's City walls looks out North-West toward the road...More

This is a beautiful monument to pass through when walking the walls but it is basically just an empty room - hardly worth mentioning!
