A wonderful tribute to the regiments and to all service personnel. They had a special section on the Somme. Having just found out I had a relative who died on the first day of the battle I found this section to be fantastic and emotional. I would, if I could, give it more stars. Staff were helpful and friendly and... More

The Museum has been enlarged and refurbished to reflect the combination of artefacts and history of The Royal Dragoon Guards and The Yorkshire Regiment - cavalry and infantry. There are several interaction activities for youngsters, plus excellent explanatory panels following a timeline. Actual uniforms, equipment, personal stories etc., are well referenced in Plain English. Very convenient for other York activities... More

They have some very good artifacts. It's been done up since I last went last time I were there it were nice and quiet with lots to look at. Since being done it looks like there's less things to look at and is noisy with TV screens I found it irritating when trying to read about the things. They have... More

Well it's back open after being refurbished! A great gem to find if you have something to do for an hour. It has been modernised to follow the Yorkshire regiments all the way up to and including this year. They have a good selection of artefacts including interactive activities and costumes. There is a wealth of information that isn't too... More

Looked at website before going to York - failed to notice it was closed for refurbishment until 2015 - There is one little line that says it is closed under the opening times!!!

Very well located, it is adjacent to the castle and very close to York Museum and Jorvik. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The exhibits record the histories of two regiments with Yorkshire connections, one infantry and one cavalry. Allow one to two hours, depending on how much you want to read about the regiments and the exhibits on... More

Took a group of Scouts to visit the Museum. Greeted by a very nice young man with the patients of a saint. Answered every question put to him by a bunch of 10 years olds who asked some very strange things. As we were leaving the heavens had opened and we were very kindly allowed back downstairs to eat in... More

We had seen the museum from the outside on numerous occasions however we never got to see it. This time we asked the hotel how to get there as we wanted to go there first. They could not find it on the net so as we had slight idea where it was we set out to find it. It could... More

Near the York Castle Musuem, manned by volunteers this little museum is stuffed full of historical artefacts, paintings, exhibitions covering the full history of the Royal Dragoons (now the Yorkshire Regiments). Easy to follow and of huge interest, the exhibits chart just about every battle and war since the C18th. We really enjoyed the visit, esp the space for Capt... More
