If you're in York I'd recommend a walk on the walls. The wall area around the Minster gives some great views of the gardens around the area. Definitely worth a stroll around on a sunny day

The wall walk is a must if you visit York, there is a small area that had no rail to hold, so being scared of heights I didn't walk that little bit. There are gold markers on the trail so it's easy enough to follow...More

There are 2 miles of the walk although you can get off at various points. The important thing is that the wall is not supported on one side and there are steep sides. Trying to pass can be scarey.

These beautiful old walls provide an insight into the history of the city of York. They also offer an enjoyable walk with lovely views.

The grandchildren were smitten with the walk on the walls imagining what it would be like as a soldier patrolling the walls in days gone by. We strolled early evening and it wasn't too busy, which, at certain times it can be. An amazing free...More

Walked with family and friends including 2x toddlers. The views are fantastic, especially of the minster on a nice day, although there are narrow sections where it is difficult for little ones. That said its all very safe and fenced off in all the right...More

The city walls are SUCH a cool way to see the city. It's so fascinating to think about how long the city walls have been standing and all the history they have seen. Definitely a neat way to get some exercise on a lovely day.

Although the walls are cool and well preserved, most of them don't have an internal fence (so if you fall good luck) and there are way too many tall trees in the surroundings so taking photos of good sceneries is almost impossible, better go to...More

We never got the feeling like we could fall. There are high walls or fences and solid footing. If it's just being high, I think 20-30 feet at the most is it.

I am a tourist, and so cannot answer your question but York is a highly organised destination and so would be suprised if a German speaking tour was not available
