Visit Roman Vindolanda today and you will find one of the North East’s most famous and not to be missed tourist attractions lying in the beautiful landscape of Hadrian's Wall Country. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year. The recently fully refurbished on site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust's ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life. There are no other places on earth where it is possible to experience Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall and history coming to life before your very eyes all in one space! Come and explore it for yourself and find out why Vindolanda is treasured worldwide.

We got the combo pass for the Roman Museum and Vindolanda. The Roman Museum pales in comparison to Vindolandia. We spent about 2 hours at Vindolandia and about 45 minutes of the Roman Museum. Vindolandia has a great museum - with so many currently items...More

We walked here from our campsite and visited with our children (6&2). The museum was well laid out but wasn't very child friendly, we could have spent ages reading all the boards but the kids got bored and we moved on to look at the...More

What can I say - Vindolanda was simply excellent. Excavations have been carried out at this site for many years, exposing the remains of a pre-wall Romano/Britain settlement and the large Roman fort which was subsequently built. Everything, from the thought that has gone into...More

Vindolanda has always been my favourite fort along Hadrians Wall. It's still a working archaeological site and volunteers are usually diging and finding more artifacts. When we popped over last week we hadn't visited for a few years. The museum and tearoom have been updated...More

It will cost a bit to get in, but the fee is well worth it. Excellent visitor centre, with exciting film show, this is probably the best excavated site all along Hadrian's wall. Well detailed - and a 'dig' in progress.

This is the real thing, so you have to use your imagination complete buildings are not what's left after all this time. That said, there is a lot there and very helpful and informative dig teams through the summer. We arrived on a lovely sunny...More
