Really interesting. Lots of information on the Border Reivers who were a violent bunch! Lawlessness ruled for many years - don't worry - it's better now!

Note this is a small museum. If you are in Hexham it is worth visiting here. The old gaol aspect of the museum gives an interesting look at how the gaol was managed. The boarder history aspect is also interesting. It is not a place...More

Lots and lots of information present. Over three floors, well the dungeon is only viewable from the lift. An oubliette really. Must have been terrifying for the prisoners. Shows clearly what life was like at the time, and the justice system, or, lack of it....More

Truly amazing that anyone lived through our recent past, you could get hung for almost anything! Good little museum with a focus on the buildings history as a gaol. Difficult to imagine the squalor of the place in days gone by. Well worth a visit

Lovely old building. Museum is quite small, but interesting none the less, especially the history of the rievers. Sort of place to spend an hour or two, rather than a whole day, but worth a visit if in Hexham

We were the only visitors in here till we left, such a shame as it is excellent. You are given a laminated sheet to help guide you round and the lift up and down makes it a great visit for those who find stairs difficult....More

Loved it especially the history of the rievers in the debatable land. Trace the family names of the orders. Lift makes it accessible to all. Brill

Well laid out and lots to look at in a fairly small area - interesting but not overpowering! The staff very friendly and informative, which added real value to the visit.
