A very enjoyable visit. The museum holds a fascinating collection of roman artifacts collected by John Clayton. Walking round the site gives a real insight into how the Romans lived at this time. If possible, time your visit to when one of the free guided...More

I was very lucky as it was a dry and sunny day. You do need stout shoes. Amazing how the baths and rooms are intact. Toilets and shop on site and a café which I did not use.

This fort was just a short way off of our route and provided us with the opportunity to stretch our legs. Small but interesting museum and as previously described ruins of a fort and bathhouse. Very open to elements when raining. Grass and muddy slippery...More

An excellent spot along Hadrian's Wall. Naturally, the centuries have provided some wear and tear on the fort, however, there is sufficient signage and illustrations to help imagine what is was like. The tour guide, whose name I apologize for not remembering, was simply excellent....More

Great to use my card here. I can see where the NT/EH spend there money. Shockingly well preserved. Easy access. One of the best Roman ruins around. Thank you.

Always wanted to visit Hadrian's Wall and finally got my chance. My friend and I weren't sure where to go to actually see the wall, so we gave this place a try. Unfortunately there isn't an actual stretch of wall here, but rather the remains...More

This site has everything, a fort, a bath house, a museum and part of Hadrian's wall. Well set out and good descriptive signs. Good cafe, although most seats outside - loved the ham and pease pudding stottie.

Staff were welcoming and understanding of how concessionary rate made site affordable and therefore more accessible for many disabled people. Site was vast and included bath house, commandant's house, barracks, many with conduits, and almost complete examples of Roman underfloor heating system, centuries ahead of...More

A bit late replying, but I'd choose Chesters for the reasons given above. As well as being beautiful and sheltered, the site museum is full (and I mean full!) of wonderful sculptures that are worth the visit alone. Another... More
