This was a very interesting visit into the history of frame knitting and the lives and living conditions of the people who worked in the industry. The museum has working frame knitting machines and these were demonstrated for us. The site also has replica rooms from the homes of the owners and workers. They are all original buildings. The staff... More

This museum is a bit out the way, only because they have preserved the original buildings, as well as the equipment. As these are the old original buildings they do have the narrow steep stairs and well worn uneven floors . This museum will appeal to those who are into knitting or early industrial equipment / engineering or social history.... More

My family found this museum very inetersting as two of them had never been before. They were very interested to learn about the history that the museum provided and really enjoyed looking around the buildings and experiancing how things were all those years ago.

We visited this museum today and were really impressed with the place. The guides there are all volunteers and tell a very interesting tale of how the family lived in past days. It's like a step back in time. Lots to learn about the people who did this work and the hardships they faced. Great for adults and they have... More

Note: Can be tricky to find it open in low season.... The Framework Knitters is an excellent little industrial museum, it packs a tremendous amount into quite a small package. You can see a traditional knitters cottage, various looms, knitting machines, spinning and so on. There is a nice garden and a little tea room. In the hall across the... More

Very interesting and educational little museum, set in a small complex of framework knitters houses. Staffed by very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. We learnt a great deal about the hard lives of the knitters, and the resulting Luddite revolt. The introductory videos are well worth watching first. Not open every day so check first. Very reasonably priced.Plenty of good pubs... More

The videos, demonstrations and information provided at the museum gives one a wonderful insight into a part of our history about which not a lot is known.

What a great little museum! The exhibits and the staff were first class! It tells the story of our very recent ancestors and their lives in such an effective way that it makes you stop and think! Everyone should visit.

The staff and volunteers at this small museum provide a really interesting tour with lots of information and demonstrations. There's a lot to see and the insight into the living and working conditions of the workers is fascinating.

Hidden gem of a museum. A tour of the house and workshops, a real glimpse of the past, supplemented by very knowledgeable volunteers, and completely unexpected from the first view of the building. A great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon!
