A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

Lived in Nottingham for 2 years and never ever been to the castle. What a mistake! It's such a lovely area of Nottingham and holds some real culture of the city. Although I think the entrance is a little pricey and doesn't appeal to the large student population, it is surrounded by some nice cafes and shops.

this is a nice museum to visit if you are in Nottingham and if you are lucky you may be able to pay for a trip into the caverns under the castle itself called mortimers hole that is quite dark and a bit spooky to I liked the museum and looking at the art work to on the walls and... More

Really interesting remains and buildings of Nottingham Castle depicting its fortunes over the ages. Owned by the Council after a range of monarchs, the Castle was ultimately burnt down during a revolt of the people. Do not go, therefore, hoping to see all the original buildings and contents still in place. The grounds have panoramic views which can be enjoyed... More

My dad used to bring me here when it was free to get in back in the day. I absolutely love the grounds and the castle itself. I aways recommend people to visit & it's an asset to nottingham.

Peel back the various layers to reveal the true history of the castle. 1000yrs worth of history have changed and shaped the castle to what it is today. Yes it's a museum and art gallery.... But it was the first of its kind outside of London, which makes it special to me. Once you find the whole story, it all... More

Disappointed at the start, having read tourist leaflets from the Tourist Information Office in town, I was expecting to pay for a family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 chn). However on arrival at the castle a family ticket is now 2 adults and 2 children, so we had to pay an extra £5. On looking at the price... More

We spent a fun couple of hours at the Castle. The cave tour was the highlight in all of its thespian glory! It was more like promenade theatre than a tour. Wear flat soles shoes like trainers for descending the caves, the steps are uneven and covered in the eroding sandstone. You don't want to tumble down Mortimer's hole by... More

Utterly disappointed most of the castle isn't there any more what is there is limited i.e. 1 main building and the castle gate. The museum is full of different objects which is ok but not all original pieces and not just from Nottingham or about Robin Hood some bits are totally random from Japan? Why I have no idea! And...
