This is a well cared-for and unexpected feature hidden in a remote Chiltern Village. A perfectly Indian well-head in a quintessentially English village. The charming story of how it got to be there is explained on-site.

The Well has an interesting history, it won't take long to visit, and next door is the Cherry Tree pub which has great food.

Superbly quirky monument now. The gift from a Maharajah to a village in England to repay a kindness shown many years before. A wonderful tale and a delightful quick visit.Brilliant!

Worth a visit between seeing Greys court and Nuffield Place. Strange place but lovely story about the well and Cherry Orchard. Nicely maintained.

Well documented local history of the well on a visitor's board. Unusual pretty well to find in rural Oxfordshire but worth a quick stop if you are passing. Easily walked from The Cherry Tree Inn. Quiet and relaxing on a Sunday morning

Having driven by the signs on numerous occassions, we finally managed to get to this rather lovely bit of English History. It was a short stop but an utterly fascinating find in a small village.

It was dug, by hand, of course – all 368 feet of it to a width of 4 feet. That’s in excess of the height of St. Paul’s Cathedral
