If you make the effort to climb the 99 steps to the top you are rewarded with wonderful views over Oxford.

Carfax Tower is located at the junction of Cornmarket, High Street and Queen Street. It is in effect the centre of Oxford. It used to be part of St Martin's church dating back to the 12th century. It is not a very high tower, and so the views of Oxford are not great. The clock chimes every fifteen minutes.

A short climb up the tower gives you a good view of Oxford. Nothing exceptional but cheap and quick.

Historically interesting tower. It marks the exact centre of Oxford, but it doesn't give as great a view over the city as might be expected. It's better from the tower of St. Mary The Virgin church.

Fantastic views over the area and whilst there is a charge you can get a combined entry and bus ticket. Lots of steps but well worth a visit

hubby took our children ages 13 and 15 years up the tower yesterday, only had £10 note to pay with, the lady on the desk was so rude moaning about correct change. its not her fault the people won't have change!! how rude... not welcoming at all. the view itself was wonderful on a sunny day,

An old tower that is very centrally located and enables a very nice view point after climbing 99 stairs.

Well worth a visit, interesting history and kids enjoyed the views across oxford. The stair's are very steep and tight so no good for anyone with any mobility issues. Free telescope at the top and reasonable entrance fee.

We arrived at Carfax Tower just before 10 am, the door was shut so we waited, the information said it opens at 10am. At 8 minutes past 10 the door opened and a young man stepped outside to put the board up to say it was open and so I stepped forward, he began to close the door and I... More

There are not many places to get a good view over Oxford so for £2.50 this is not bad. Don't expect to get the sort of panoramic view you might get in other cities as this tower is only 99 steps high. But enjoy the view of Oxford particularly the one to the south.
