We attended a splendid baroque concert there. The music was wonderful and -- if you choose a seat on the upper level you can enjoy both the music- with a full view of the players - and the great architecture. A bit like St Martins...More

A nice place to visit when you have a spare hour. Music recitials and free lectures aplenty. Accoustics not great and the seats are hard so take your own cushion.

It costs a few pounds to visit, but the main hall, and a visit upstairs into the attic area and the top turret are just phenomenal. Beautiful view of Oxford in 360 degrees from the top.

If you are visiting Oxford look for concerts at the Sheldonian. The building is designed by Christopher Wren and the seating is authentic (not much room between rows). It is especially fitting to go to a classical concert (like Mozart, Handel) because the music was...More

The Sheldonian is most definitely worth visiting to experience its superb architecture alone. It was constructed in the period 1664-1669 after a design by Christopher Wren and was named after Sheldon who was Chancellor of the University at that time. Architecturally it is superb, being...More

Venues vary at the Sheldonian but the Christopher Wren building from 1664 is certainly worth the visit.

This building is very unique in its round style. It is right next to a main library and,I think is also a library itself.

Dear Jotum, Thank you for your review of the Sheldonian Theatre. This building is separate from the Bodleian Library and is the primary location for degree ceremonies for Oxford University. With Kindest Regards, The Sheldonian Theatre Team

This architectural marvel in the heart of Oxford city is mostly used for University degree ceremonies, Lectures, Concerts, etc. We were informed that The Sheldonian is called the “theatre” because its design resembles that of a Roman theatre, but no plays are performed here. A...More
