More
The Sheldonian Theatre, an exquisite Grade I listed building situated in Oxford's city centre, is the official ceremonial hall of Oxford University. The Theatre is a popular tourist attraction particular because it offers one of the best indoor panoramic views of Oxford's famous skyline from its Cupola. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1664 and 1669. The Theatre offers self-guided tours or guided tours. On a one hour guided tour, you get to learn about how the University was formed, how long it's been in existence and the secrets of its past. You get to hear about 900 years of University history as well as learning about the history of the Theatre. For availability, booking and opening hours information visit our website.

Wonderful building. For only £3 you do a "self-guided tour" i.e. you are given a leaflet and go round on your own! Wonderful lecture theatre with beautiful carving, then up LOTS of steep stairs to a viewing room at the top. It is a long...More

I attended a concert offered by the Oxford Millennium Orchestra one evening, featuring works by Prokofiev (so-so) and Brahms (brilliant.) The acoustics were good, the seating compelling in its classical style though not designed as a concert venue. The interior is remarkable due to its...More

This very attractive theatre both inside and out, was the first building designed by Christopher Wren and is based on the Theatre of Marcellus in Rome but with a roof! The theatre has an extravagantly painted ceiling and three tiers of seating around a u-shaped...More

On my first impression I was preparing myself for something bigger and much more breath taking and overwhelming, However the theatre itself was just the right size. It wasn’t the Albert hall by any comparison but the illustrations and architecture in and out of the...More

This is a beautiful 17th century building designed by Christopher Wren the architect of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. We attended here as part of a university graduation ceremony and it provided a splendid backdrop to the ancient ceremony which is centuries old

Beautiful building, well worth a visit inside as it's quite amazing. The seating is however very uncomfortable!

Our first visit was on the Saturday of Matriculation, so lots of students having pictures taken at this area. We were on the tour bus. Hopped off on our second visit and walked through to visit the Bridge of Sighs.
