A good walk from the city centre was rewarded with the view by the monument. There is a commemorative plaque near the monument that briefly describes the 19th century cholera epidemic in the city

Located high on the hill above Sheffield's main train station, the Cholera Monument is easily visible from the city centre. Long slog to get up the hill to it, but its well signposted from the Ponds Forge area. Nice views and impressive stone work.

Went here a few years ago after always thinking I'll go one day, and was worth it with all it's history. Defo recommended. Some people will just go as a one off and never go again but some may go back over and over again...More

Walked up from the train station, monument to people that have died from a disease, did they give their lives so others could live perhaps, I dont know? Views over the city and surrounding countryside.

Probably one of the oddest things to build a monument to. Having viewed it, it occurred to me that this is actually quite fitting especially in a city like Sheffield with it's working class past. A nice way to remember the people most likely to...More

Lovely monument in commanding position but call me old fashioned: I'm against cholera. Surely the powers that be could choose something nicer to monumentalise. A monument to a deadly plague really is political correctness gone mad.

The best way to approach the Cholera Monument is (if you are physically able) to walk down through Norfolk Park, cross Granville Road at the crossing then, a very short walk along Norfolk Road, turning left down Fitzwalter Road for 60 mtrs, picking up a...More

Peaceful spot to while away a bit of time. Easily accessible on foot from the railway station. Steep path though, although once in the park it is flat. Almost adjacent to the larger Norfolk Park.

One can see this gothic 19th century monument from the city centre and the railway station on a grassy hill, next to the Park Hill flats. It's worth the climb as there are excellent views to the west over the city. Additionally, you can contemplate...More
