Georgian elegance at its finest

In common with many of Bath's streets, Great Poulteney Street, this lovely street has remained unspoiled since it was built.

How can you not be impressed with this wonderful wide Georgian street. The pavements are so wide, probably two car widths, that on both sides, two rows of parked cars and then two lanes of traffic - amazing! The rows of four storey terraced Georgian houses just finishes it all off. It takes you back to Jane Austen novels!

No area will give you a truer feeling of the Georgian city of Bath than Great Pulteney Street. It's a wide avenue with sweeping 18th century buildings planned from their beginnings to make an impression on passersby. I walked from central Bath to Great Pulteney Street from its beginning near the banks of the River Avon, to its end, at... More

This is a fine example of Georgian architecture and leads to the bridge which has shops on either side!

A walk along Great Pulteney street is a must for all that come to Bath, for a romantic stroll, to enjoy it from a site seeing perspective, nostalgic, stunning architecture, one of Britains finest streets.

One should be willing to walk across the Pulteney Bridge to see more of Bath. Though not as grand as the area around the Bath Abbey, it should not be missed. So is the walk uphill to where the Royal Crescent lies (not a must).

Our B&B... Henrietta House, was just off this main drag in Bath. It is a great street for a stroll and just looking into the windows. The rugby club store is along the walk as well as the little restaurant just over the bridge.
