Description:

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village - one of the UK’s great archaeological sites...

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village - one of the UK’s great archaeological sites - is a stunning recreation of the Anglo-Saxon settlement that occupied the site between 450-650 AD.

There is lots to see and do at West Stow throughout the year. Wander through the village and imagine what life would have been like for the Anglo-Saxons who lived here. Visit the Museum to see hundreds of fascinating finds excavated from beneath your feet. Dress up as an Anglo-Saxon, become an archaeologist in our Mini-Dig and don't forget to meet the pigs and chickens!

After visiting the Village, make sure you explore the historic landscape of our 125 acre Country Park. A large area of the park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as it is home to a variety of rare Breckland species.

We run lots of exciting events from battle re-enactments to bushcraft.

Excellent place for good walks - with or without kids or dogs!! Had coffee and food in cafe afterwards - umm. Coffee excellent but food left much to be desired.

Enjoyed both the reconstructions but also the lovely walks. Have visited this site over many years and watched it grow and be a place for all the family

This is a lovely place to walk (with or without dogs) it has loads of different habitats with lots of wildlife, the lake is small enough to walk all the way around and if you look carefully you can see some quite big fish. The village itself is really interesting and if you get to go on one of the... More

This is a great place to have a walk with the kids, dogs each other etc but avoid the cafe like the lague that may have been here many centuries before. The tea and coffee is weak and insipid and the scones we had had the texture of cardboard and the taste of......cardboard.

Its a while since I went to the Anglo Saxon village and is best suited to school trips, the lake and walk though is very nice at anytime of the year. Dogs cant be let off but that isn't a massive problem, there is plenty of wildlife in a quiet setting. I imagine the fishing is good it looks it... More

If you need to drive more than 10 minutes to visit this place, please don't do. There is no service, no guide, no attraction, no cheer, no proper museum. The lady at the souvenir shop was helpful and polite. That's all folks!!! This place needs a good renovation and a good management.

Our Scout visited as we were camping nearby. On arrival the receptionist told us if we'd booked in advance we could have got a group discount! Not much good for us but might be useful to someone else. There was a group of re-enactment folk on site to liven up the event. It was good to talk to them about... More

Very interesting and informative. Staff well trained and knowledgeable and extremely good with children. Good play area and places to picnic. Cafe expensive for the quality of food.

Sadly we only had time for a refreshment stop but the rest is on our list for next time. Excellent large café with attractive wooden veranda, extra seating under the trees. Varied menu, all reasonably priced. Service & food excellent.

The way into the village had an excellent displat of artefacts found at the site over the years, and from the area. Some really good examples from all the early periods, including the Stone Ages. We has arrived not too long before the closing time, and off season, so we had the village to ourselves. It was useful to see... More
