It is a very interesting mix of abandoned military facilities and nature reserve based on shingle and marshes. The highlights for me were the atomic bomb and Laboratory 1, which is an abandoned test facility overgrown with vegetation. The atmosphere in that building is otherworldy.

Visited mid week and got there prompt for the 10am boat as we heard it could get busy. But no pressure- we were the only 2 on the first boat and I think only 2 on the next one, 20 mins later. Renewed out NT...More

This was the highlight of a recent trip - we went to the lighthouse which was amazing and the quietness in the nature reserve was just awesome!

Great day at the nature reserve. We arrived early to get tickets for the boat journey across. The boat only takes 11 people at one time. Interesting history of the radar and weapons testing here and good long walks across the beach to the lighthouse.

One of the stranger places to visit but so interesting and worthwhile. There is the windswept landscape dotted with strange (military) buildings and a lighthouse; there are birds; finally there is the extremely interesting military history detailed at various points, including a museum. We loved...More

This is a deeply peculiar place. It is open strange hours, there's an odd ferry system to get you there, and many of the things you will see are odd. (Alao, the explanations of them are almost incomprehensible.) But it's really good, and you won't...More

On Tuesday 30th May 2017 a group of 33 Volunteers from Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome visited Orford Ness - the main reason was that 37 Squadron Royal Flying Corps came into existence at Orford Ness in 1916 - and we wanted to learn more...More

Quiet, beautiful, good for walking or sitting with an ice Cream! Whenever we visit this place there are all ages. It has a nice cafe on the waters edge and there is usually an ice cream van in the parking area. It's a great place...More
