Re-live the glorious days of the steam railway at Stephenson Railway Museum! The Museum is home to George Stephenson's 'Billy', a forerunner of the world- famous Rocket, and many other engines from the great age of steam. A programme of free events runs throughout the year, and train rides on working steam and diesel locomotives are available at certain times (check the website for details).

Great way to occupy the children on a rainy day. Lots of things to interact with. Good understanding on how the train industry started.

I'm really sorry but I personally found this to be very poor value for money. My brother paid around £50 for us to attend this event for my nephews birthday. After looking around the small museum and having the short train ride, there was very...More

Many thanks for coming to visit us Irene. We aren't open every day at the moment, mainly weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays, so we would advise visitors to check our website www.stephensonrailwaymuseum.org.uk for opening times. Best wishes, Geoff Woodward, Museum Manager.
