An old Gentlemen's club turned into a pub. Lots of small rooms over two floors with three separate bars, each serving a different range of beers Standard range of Wetherspoons food which was quickly served Lots of old pictures giving the history of the pub and surrounding area

Called in here for something to eat on a cold Sunday in November. This bar gets very busy right over the weekend and on Sunday at 1pm it was full, including large groups of lads. This is a lovely old building and plenty of rooms in which to drink and eat. Standard spoons food menu and drinks. You know exactly... More

First off, this place looks fantastic - it is an old style English building which has been done up to look more modern. It's big and spacious and has multiple floors. It is also quite cheap for food and drink and in a very central location. Unfortunately would could not find a clean table to sit at because they all... More

Absolutely wonderful atmosphere throughout this grand establishment, it's such a shame that the frontage is limited due to the over running construction of student accommodation next door. The biggest buzz for me was a lovely pint of cask ale for £1.49, really turning the clocks back & making me one happy man!!!!!

Where ever I go in the UK I always seek out the local 'spoons; mainly because I know it will offer great VFM [food & drink] but also because often they are in historic buildings and / or include some form of over view of how the name came about, previous use of buildings etc. What a fantastic building this... I use this pub for food whenever I'm in Newcastle; it's perfectly situated near the station and ideal as a waiting room ;-) My first impression was not great - I stil don't like the style and decor, it's a bit like a student bar and I'm a pentioner - but the staff are great and the food good, neither... Hello John, We're so glad our staff make you want to keep coming back to the pub, we really love providing a welcoming atmosphere. Sorry you're not a fan of the décor but we think some of the features like the stained glass window and main staircase hopefully make up for it. We look forward to seeing you again. More

Have been to this establishment on many occasions and return as i enjoy the place. On my most recent visit i encountered a problem when i acted as a good Samaritan when i saw an elderly gent in a wheelchair struggling to gain access to the disabled toilet. Up until now i have never thought of the difficulties disabled people... More
