Overview
More
Located on the banks of River Avon, this is considered one of England's most-visited Parish Churches and the site where William Shakespeare was baptized in 1564 and buried in 1616. In addition to Shakespeare's grave the 800 year-old church has some notable stained glass windows and 26 carved misericords dating from the 1400s. The high altar is one of the very few pre-reformation stone altars still in use in England today. Also of note is the sanctuary knocker on the inner porch door dating from the 1200s - anyone touching this could claim sanctuary within for 37 days.

its a small church but seeing it from across the river is the most divine thing.. you have to walk a bit from the river to reach there , still worth a visit

We were able to visit this beautiful church where William Shakespeare is buried. We only do paid an extra £2 to access the grave area. Barbara our tour guide was very informative and this is her local church.

Saw the special on finding Will's bones, so I was familiar with the search. The church is a must-see. At New Place, you will see a ring lost by Will on his way to his daughter's wedding at the church, found 200 years later and...More

There's so much more substance to this attraction than to the other over-restored historic Stratford buildings. The church itself stands out irrespective of who is buried there. There's a great atmosphere once one enters, and the grounds and gravestones warrant hours of relaxing inspection.

Lovely church so was very exited about going inside, not only to pray but make a church donation but you can only donate ‘suggested donation of £3’ to go and view Shakespeare’s tombstone which is guarded by the church verger. I realise they have to...More

Perfect feature to a place all about Shakespeare. Explore this beautiful church and go to see the actual place of Shakespeare's burial. Very interesting and lovely to see.

Went to see where Shakespeare was buried and were very impressed with everything about the church. The interior of the church is every bit as impressive as the exterior.

Visited the church as we were in the area, we received a warm welcome from the volunteers and gave the donations to visit the graves. Lots of interesting information about Shakespear and the church itself available.
