Well Worth a Visit

Wonderful medieval paintings have been discovered in the chapel and it has a history with Shakespeare's family. It also has a stain glass window depicting John Shakespeare.

With all the excitement about William Shakespeare, the many houses to visit at large expense, and long cues, this is a really and truly hidden gem of the town. Try not to miss this little church, which is right besides Shakespeare's non-existent "New House". You can have the glimpse at some extraordinary wall paintings, which during the time of reformation... More

Never put much thought into this in previous visits, normally wandering past it, but when taken in conjunction with the Schoolroom and Guild Hall next door, the story starts to grow. Keep an eye out for the murals within, including the excellent doom painting.

The Chapel dates back to the 13th Century and has been associated with Shakespeare’s family and his father was ordered to deface the medieval paintings in the 16th Century because of the Reformation, but perhaps he didn’t do as he was told as they have now been uncovered! There are information boards giving further details. Free to enter with donations... More

Been to Stratford several times, somehow never been in the Guild chapel until now. It's got gorgeous medieval paintings on the wall, i don't think i've ever seen anything like it in a church before. They've been given a grant to restore them and by the looks of it what they've done so far is well worth it. It's right... More

Even though we often visit Stratford we had never stumbled across this before. Lots of historic connections including the now revealed wall paintings which had previously been concealed.

The person 'on duty' was very informative and made the visit worthwhile. There are many medieval wall paintings and a good information panels explaining when they were painted, what they depict and how they were covered up and eventually discovered. Worth a look. Voluntary donations.

The Guild Chapel is a little sacred place which located right inside the town's centre, only 15 minutes walking from Shakespeare's birth place. Couldn't forget the stained glass panels, beautiful flower bathtub and particular English architecture.
