Spitfire island is a nice monument to the run way that was in castle vale during World War Two. Worth seeing if you are a fan of aeroplanes in WW2.

Situated on a traffic island so it's something you drive past as opposed to a specific visit unless you have a particular interest. But nice to have a memorial to the local manufacture of this iconic aircraft.

Driven past this sculpture loads of times...finally got a chance to look closely as someone else was driving! The sculpture is just wonderful. Really commemorates the wonder of the spitfire and how hard it worked for us in ww2. Love the way the sculpture has...More

This display livens up an otherwise boring suburban roundabout. Drove around it a couple of times then stopped and took a picture. Don't go out your way but look out for it if you're in the area.

I went to opening the sculpture. It's outside the Jaguar car plant were the Spitfire was produced. The sculptor, J.R.R. Tolkien's grandson, I believe, opens the commemorative sculpture. Is huge, I think the Spitfires are almost full size. I pass it quite often and I...More

Need to view it at a walk as it is a busy roundabout and you wouldn’t be able to see it well driving. Council needs to do better at taking care of the roundabout as the weeds take away from the view!

The significance of the memorial is rather lost as you drive around the island...This particular area of Birmingham was synonymous with the building, manufacturing and supply of part to the fleet of aircart during the second world war. A modest testament to the people evolved...More

Living in the area gives me lots of opportunities to pass this impressive sculpture of the iconic Spitfire. Positioned in the centre of a roundabout on a major road makes it tricky for a driver to fully appreciate the flowing forms of the piece nevertheless...More

A lovely piece of art work dedicated to the Spitfire. Just unfortunate in the middle of a very busy roundabout so the driver can't really appreciate it.

An impressive spitfire monument mounted on a roundabout. I wish they would paint it as currently it is just being left to oxidise. I pass it many times as I drive past.
