Dedicated to Frederick Burnaby, soldier and statesman, this Portland stone sculpture is in the form of an obelisk, which stands more than fifty feet high and shows a relief portrait of Burnaby in uniform.
Surrounded by benches you'd think Burnaby's Memorial would be well looked after. That's not the case.
The memorial looks old and worn, there's miss growing around it and it has been defaced in places. What's shame.
This obelisk is in a churchyard standing next to the Cathedral. I believe it is a memorial for a Birmingham politician. Sadly it gets vandalised often despite being listed. If you are sightseeing the cathedral anyway they it is worth a look.
