Founded over 800 years ago in 1152 discover more about what life was like for the Cistercian monks who lived here for nearly 400 years. Enjoy the abbey's parkland setting next to the River Aire. Kirkstall Abbey is a charming ruin situated just outside of the city centre of Leeds. Many of the major bus lines (33, 33A, Airport Shuttle) will take you along Kirkstall road to the abbey. There are a number of local pubs/restaurants nearby well worth visiting...More

We popped here on a chilly windy day, so it was a rather fast tour. This isn’t the biggest Abbey in Yorkshire but there are enough ruins to make it interesting. Bite size facts are located around the walls telling you about the remaining buildings...More

What a wonderful fairly well preserved ruins the day we were there we couldn't get access to the Abbey as they were setting up for a function , but we walked around the outside you can still take some nice photos which I will share...More

Just outside the city of Leeds is this ancient ruin. An Abbey bout in the 2nd century. The roof of slate is not there but the church and it’s wings are well preserved. Set in beautiful gardens and easily reached by car or transit. Well...More

I live close to the Abbey and have spent lots of time there. It’s a very well preserved area of Leeds and is available to walk around. There’s a small shop which sells soft drinks and ice creams and lovely items pertaining to the Abbey....More

Yes, it is extremely easy to go to Kirkstall Abbey from the Leeds Train Station. I took the bus and there is a bus stop right outside the Abbey. The grounds of the Abbey has paved roads which should not pose a problem to the... More
