Me and the girlfriend visited here this weekend as we had never heard of it but spotted a leaflet. What an excellent place , the watermill is all running and I found that fascinating . It's a nice location too in between the river and the canal. There are a load of narrow boats to see and a nice small... More

When they get the flood defences work completed and if they give sections of the canal a good clean up, this will be a beautiful walk. The 50-60minute stroll from the very centre of Leeds by The Royal Armouries and Brewery Wharf, all the way to Thwaite Mills without touching a road. It was difficult to follow the pedestrian diversion... More

I've often found that Saturday is an ideal day to visit attractions, they tend to be quieter. This was our first visit, it was a grey day and the grounds outside were a little muddy underfoot so we limited the visit to the mill buildings with a promise to come back and explore further. The water wheel was working and... More

I was a volunteer with a group of special learning needs adults having a music-making session. It was a quiet place, nice and spacious with greenery - excellent for catching games. I saw some families there spending some time trekking and boating activities.

We were told this is the only working Watermill in England. This museum is run by just 5 people, which had to deal with the devastation caused by last years floods and restore this museum back to its formal glory. We are proud of the hard work they have done to restore it. All the working parts of the Mill... More

Having visited many years ago and remembering it as a small museum we decided to revisit. We weren't expecting much and were expecting that all the floodwater would have left irreparable damage, so we're very surprised to find it's all restored, replaced and fixed and looking better than ever! The museum buildings have all been restored, all machinery is up... More

Free visit as it was heritage weekend. We had a very informative tour which the children and adults found interesting. Was amazed that thus huge place is kept going by five full time people. I guess that explains the slightly odd opening hours. They are doing more and more with this lovely place including parties and weddings. Beautiful location. Space... More

We decided to visit Thwaite Mills Which is a19th century working water mill in a really pleasant location on the River Aire. Some areas were a little dark and the children needed some persuasion to enter but all in all a most interesting experience. The Mill is a learning experience for children and the opening times are a little off... More

Definitely the most interesting and scary industrial museum I've been to. Excellently preserved 3 storey mill with outbuildings on an island in the River Aire.. The 2 massive waterwheels are thundering around at 7mph still powering shafts and cogs that run around the building between floors and overhead. Everywhere you look something is oiled and rotating. All this accompanied by... More

Superbly preserved 19th century working water mill in a really pleasant location on the River Aire. Took my elderly father and cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful staff who looked after us so well. The 2 huge water wheels must be seen to be appreciated, as does the themed rooms of the mill manager's house, the mill itself and... More
