Went here on our way from Avebury to Stonehenge. It's just off the highway, and only a very short walk from the car park. I would think you'd struggle to spend more than 15 minutes here, but it's worth the stop just to admire the...More

We walked out from Avebury henge to see Silbury Hill, a lovely walk up one of the henge's 'avenues' of standing stones, up and over another hill and there it was. It's really an extraordinary sight on the landscape, all the more so for its...More

Ancient landmarks litter this area, piles of stones, mounds marking the last resting place of long forgotten people, carvings into the chalk of horses and people. It's quite easy to spend a few days immersing yourself in the many places, and speculate what drove people...More

This place is incredibly odd. It’s a huge, man-made, pyramid sized mound which was created by humans, but nobody knows what for! It really is rather impressive, and the mystery around it makes it more so.

Sidbury Hill's amazing for a moment or two when we understand what we're observing, but I wonder if some other minds wander to thoughts akin to what it might be like to tumble, sled or ski down in season. If we did not know the...More

Silbury Hill is an iconic landmark, and one of those mysterious North Wiltshire must see's. It is a shame you can no longer walk up there - you could years ago and the views were lovely. It is also well known for crop circles suddenly...More

Silbury Hill, sitting beside the A4, is one of the best preserved examples of Iron Age life in the UK. It's still something of a mystery why it was constructed, but must have been of great importance

I guess that the answer is that we will never really know why it was built. A bit sad really when you consider the excavations that have happend on site, but maybe we can just look on in awe and wonder at the time and...More

On our visit to Avebury, our guide mentioned, and pointed out the Silbury Hill. It is fascinating to have some things as old and large as this in the UK! Next time I'm back I will include a longer stop here as well as in...More

You cant miss this massive man made mound, its 30meters high, although your not allowed to actually walk up it , you can walk around its base, rather impressive as it was constructed 3650BC

We used a private guide Keith Britton who is not just a great guide but an excellent photographer. We got loads of family pics free. If it makes sense for you, you could hire him and his car for the trip. Else there are... More
